8 Reasons Women Should Try Short Hair

We live in a society that, for the longest time, has favored women with long hair. We hear comments like, "Men like long hair!" and "You have such beautiful hair, why would you cut it all off?!" But when it comes to our hair, shouldn't it be our decision? And when it comes down to it, there are many reasons to give short hair a try:

1. Spontaneity!

When I decided to get a pixie cut a year and a half ago, I made the decision the night before I got my hair cut. I thought, why not? It was a major decision that I made in less than 24 hours, and I never once regretted it.

2. Confidence

Now, I'm not saying that we should rely on our outward appearance for confidence. But for me, taking that drastic leap by chopping off my hair gave me a sense of power and the courage to conquer my fears--and not just fears about my hair. For many women, long hair is a security blanket; it may be scary to chop it all off, especially if you've worked hard to grow out your hair.

3. It's something different

Long hair is gorgeous--but there's only so much you can do with it. For some, long hair is not only safe but it is also consistent; for me, I am always wanting to change my hair, and there are so many short hairstyles to try out!

4. Growing it out

Should you grow tired of a certain haircut--like the pixie--growing it out may seem like a hassle, but really it's just an opportunity to try new styles along the way. Trying out different styles is like trying out different versions of yourself. If "all the world's a stage" as Shakespeare said, then a woman's hair is the costume she adorns for each character she portrays.

5. Shorter morning routine

You have a lot less hair to worry about styling, and so instead of spending your entire morning washing, blow drying, and straightening or curling your hair, you free up more time to eat breakfast, spend time with family, or sleep in.

6. You save money

Because you have less hair to style, you use up a lot less shampoo and hair products, which means you don't have to buy them as often.

7. Your hair doesn't get in the way

Windy day? No problem. Hair getting caught in your purse or backpack strap? Not anymore.

8. You might inspire others

Maybe someone you know is considering cutting her hair short, but she is afraid of chopping her hair off. But if she sees that you conquered the same fear and it wasn't a complete disaster, she'll gather the courage to give short hair a try, and maybe even find the confidence and courage to face some of her other fears as well.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.
