8 Reasons Winter Break is the Worst

You know it's true.

8 Reasons Winter Break is the Worst

Say what you will, but Winter Break is actually the worst break. Yes, there are some good parts such as Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanza and New years, but other than that there really isn't that much to do. Need more proof? Here you go:

1. "Oh the Weather Outside is Frightful"

Spring break is warm. Summer Vacation is warm. Winter Break is, quite frankly, cold. Even if you go somewhere that is normally warm (California/Florida), it's still colder than normal. Being from New England, I can tell you that the weather sucks and it's cold and miserable. It doesn't even come close to being able to go to the beach or even go outside without a coat.

2. Missing Friends

Sure, your high school friends are fun to hang out with, but when you see someone every day for a semester, you get used to that. So when you go home for winter break you start to realize just how much you miss those people at school who have become your friends, the ones who stay up all night watching Netflix, the ones who tag you in random dog videos. Not seeing them for over a month absolutely sucks.

3. Nagging Parents

I love my parents, I really do. But when you're home for a long time, they start to get on your nerves. They ask what you did all day, and when you tell them "not much", they seem upset. Not only that, but you become tech support for your technologically-stupid house. Sure, it's great the first time, but after the 10th time explaining how Netflix works, it gets old.

4. Cook your own meals

I'm not lazy. But there's something nice about going to the Student Center, getting your food and eating it. Instead, when you're home for break, you have to cook that food. Again, I'm not lazy but it's nice to not have to cook your food. And yes, one day we all have to cook our own food, but I want to put that off as long as I can.

5. No Meal Points

The bane of every college student's existence is money. Now, when we're at school we have our meal points so we can use them to buy food. Sure, we may run out, but until we do that money doesn't need to be worried about until graduation. When we're home, every cent comes from our own pocket. Even if it's on a debit card it still comes from your bank account. No more late night Ben&Jerry's.

6. Nothing to do

Maybe you hang with your friends for a few days. Maybe you do some stuff, but it's not nearly as much as when you are at school. Netflix is great, but after a while can get monotonous. You reach a point where you actually want to be in class and staying up until 2 AM working on the paper that's due in 6 hours that you haven't started. It beats doing nothing all day.

7. Appointments for days.

Of course, you're not home during the school year so you have no choice but to put them during winter break. You'll get stuck with a needle, poked in the gums, and asked to read the fourth line down, as well as any other check-ups you have.

8. You feel old.

Who are these kids walking around my town? When did that middle schooler go to the high school? What is the trendy thing in high school? There's no way of knowing because you've been away from it all for a while. So you have to walk around and realize that this is how our parents feel. Disconnected and out of touch.

Good luck making it to the beginning of the semester. Enjoy binging on Netflix, and remember that school will be here soon.

Dear High School Friend Group,

My sweet angels, where would I be without you guys. We all grew up together because we either met in middle school or high school and watched each other grow up and get "old." We got to go to prom together and then graduate together. Then watched each other as we continued our lives in college, joining sororities and meeting people who will impact our lives forever. It all has happened so fast.

Oh college, we can’t live with you, but we can’t live without you. It’s a love/hate relationship, really. College is an experience that no one can ever prepare you for, and maybe that’s a good thing. You never really expect any of the things that college encompasses until you are there. College is fun, but don’t have too much fun. C’s get degrees, but they don’t get you into graduate school.

Blair Waldorf

The "Gossip Girl" series may be over, but Blair Waldorf's iconic character lives in our hearts forever. Blair was the queen of the Upper East Side, and a character you either loved or hated. She taught us everything we needed to know about life, love and of course, how to score a Chuck Bass. So the next time you feel a bit lost and are in need of guidance, look no further than to the Queen B herself.

As I spend my Sunday avoiding my homework and other adult responsibilities, I realized that I've watched this series over and over about a million times. Sadly, there isn't a Blair quote I don't know, so I came up with a list of a few favorites. You know you love her...xoxo

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help.
