8 Reasons Why Your Sophomore Year Is The Worst

Be it high school or college, I've found sophomore year to be the most despicable one

8 Reasons Why Your Sophomore Year Is The Worst
The Huffington Post

I have experienced two sophomore years in my lifetime and both were garbage. Maybe I need to experience a third one, or a fourth one, to further cement my hypothesis. However, here is some of the data that I've collected.

1. The school is old news.

Maybe your first year is a little more exciting, but once you get a hang of being a student, you get a little jaded.

2. Your freshmen year friends start to drift apart.

Once you find the place where you fit in the most, be it your specific major or your own organizations, your old friends fall by the wayside. It doesn't mean you're not meant to be friends, but that you fit it more elsewhere.

3. Your parents don't pay attention as much.

Now that they trust you to make it through one year, they may give you more space. It's a blessing to have more independence, but it feels like the cold breath of adulthood is rushing over us.

4. You old relationships may not last the changes.

When your life gets shaken up, you change.Your first year may have been feat of trying to hold onto anything familiar, but now you could let go if you want to. Some relationships will last the switch to a new world, but I have met a lot of sophomore who have suddenly found themselves single.

5. The pressure is on.

You could let things slide your freshmen year. You could get by without having a major, not doing well in classes, or whatever, because you're just now getting started. Well welcome to the cruel world and welcome to the overwhelming sense that you need to get it together yesterday.

6. Classes are harder.

And they seem like they'll only get worse.

7. You might lose sight of yourself.

You get caught up in getting the hang of the new school or trying to handle the new workload, that you might not have noticed how much you've grown. You start to wonder who you really are and what you want out of life.

8. Your expectations might not get met.

It's one thing to realize you were wrong about what would happen your freshmen year, but the added resentment that you should've known better makes it that much more painful.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
