8 Reasons Why You Should Travel Abroad
Maria Pericozzi

It is a scary thing when you see the terrorist attacks in other countries on the news. Knowing that I was traveling to Italy during Spring break, I made the choice to not be one of my few classmates who cancelled the trip. Instead of being 150 miles from my parents, I was going to be 4,000 miles away. Although I was scared, it was the best decision I have ever made.

Reflecting on my time abroad, here are eight reasons why you should travel to Italy and not be afraid.

1. Meeting new people.

I was lucky enough to be traveling to Italy with 38 other students, which means that I was able to add 38 new friends to my friend list.

2. Trying new foods.

If you've been to Italy, you know that the food is what brings most people there. If you want Margherita pizza that is bigger that two heads and plates full of pasta with rich, creamy sauce, Italy is the place to be. I ate the best pizza I have ever had. I also discovered that I really like roasted red peppers, fried eggplant and zouchini.

3. The wine.

Being in Europe, I was old enough to be able to order a glass of wine with my dinner. The wine in Italy pleases every taste bud in such a way that I could have sucked down an entire bottle of wine before I even got my meal.

4. The beauty of the city.

While standing in the Colosseum, in front of the Vatican and at the bottom of the Holy Steps, there is no greater feeling. I was able to live out my Lizzie McGuire moment and say, this is what dreams are made of.

5. The relaxed way of life.

Roman people (yes, they like being referred to as the Roman people) have a relaxed way of life. Rome is just like New York City, but instead of everyone rushing around, pushing and shoving on the streets, the Roman people don't hurry. Yes everyone has a place to be, but no one rushes around.

6. The gelato.

Gelato. Mmmm. I've never tasted anything so wonderful. I can never go back to eating regular ice cream ever again. I can now cross that off of my bucket list.

7. There are Italian Military and Police on every corner.

The Italian Military are on every corner due to the recent attacks in Europe. They are also incredible friendly. Although you can't take pictures with them, they will answer any questions you have. Also they are pretty cool considering they have swords hanging from their belts.

8. Getting an experience of a lifetime.

Being in Italy means you're surrounded by the most wonderful architecture, the nicest people, mouth-watering food and sweet-tasting wine.

This being my first time leaving the country, I was nervous, especially with what is going on in our world. I learned to not be afraid. The world won't stop turning because of attacks, so why let that stop you from getting the experience of a lifetime?

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
