" The Office" is one of my all-time favorite TV shows. I proudly admit to binge watching it for an entire summer with absolutely no regrets. The Scranton Branch is the idealistic workplace- it's where dreams come true. As a business major, I am quite partial to working in an office. So what better topic for today's article than combining my real life with one of my favorite TV shows? Here are 8 fantastic reasons why "The Office" made me want to have an office job (and should make you want one too):
1. Your BFFs are your co-workers
What's more fun than working in a place with 15 of your best friends??? That's right: nothing. I mean, have you seen Jim and Pam? (Almost) All the employees at the Scranton Branch are like best friends (minus Angela and like everyone else). Just think about it: you get to spend almost all your waking hours with your friends. It. Would. Be. Great.
2. Office Pranks
This was very close to being number one on my list. The office is a place with ample opportunities to pull some of the most legendary pranks EVER. It is also an arsenal for practical joke materials: all you need is some sticky notes, a paperclip or two, and a good imagination. Jim performed some of the greatest pranks known to man on Dwight, and that has deeply inspired me to the core.
3. Working as a Team
Team work makes the dream work! Nothing makes dreary, monotonous projects come alive like working as a team. It's like a combination of 1and 2. How great is that? Michael, Dwight, and Jim are like the Dream Team- the model that all teams should base themselves off of.
4. The (Good) Jokes
One of the greatest parts about having an office job is all the inside jokes you get to share with your co-workers. They go hand-in-hand with office pranks. You have to pass the time somehow, and Michael Scott knew how to entertain his employees with (what he thought were) funny jokes and numerous, numerous email forwards.
5. The Office Get-Togethers
Ah the Dundies. The greatest award a person could win (according to Michael). Office gatherings will become traditions, and maybe, just maybe, you will learn to love them. Who knows, they may even become significant events in your life (though probably not). What matters is that you'll suffer through it together (refer to 3).
6. You Love Each Other...You love your co-workers. They love you. You are together all the time, and therefore, it's pretty much a must. Yes, you will come in on the weekends (if you just have to, of course) or stay past office hours. No, you will not like it. But you love your co-workers. Don't forget it.
7. ...You Hate Each Other
There will be times when you "can't even" with your fellow co-worker. There might even be times when your relationships are like Michael and Toby's (which is definitely not a good thing). People will always do things that will try you and make you pray incessantly that the Lord himself holds you back. But that's the fun of it right?
8. You're a Family
At the end of the day, you and your co-workers are not just friends, you are a big, happy family. You love each other, you hate each other, and there's nothing on this earth you wouldn't do for them (except take their shift, you do have your limits). Michael loved his employees (except Toby) like they were his family, and that's the beauty of working in very, very close proximity of each other. No personal space but a lot of love. And that's what counts.
