8 Reasons Why Tattoos Are Awesome

Tumblr, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest are all websites where we see variations of different tattoos. These websites give us ideas about wanting a tattoo or continuing the process of getting them. Tattoos are becoming very socially acceptable this day in age and boy am I happy to be living in this accepted society! For a long time tattoos were seen as something people would get if they were involved with drugs, violence or gangs, but they are so much more than that. Tattoos can be beautiful pieces of work on someone’s body that truly express who they are as a person. So if you're someone who loves tattoos and the significance they may have behind them, then this is the perfect article for you to read!

1. They can have a powerful meaning behind it.

For me, my very first tattoo that I got was for my 18th birthday, I decided that I was going to dedicate this tattoo to my father. I got a bluebird on my back because it was a symbol to remember my father by after his death. Meaningful tattoos are something special and beautiful to that person; it's a way of never forgetting a loved one.

2. They are a true expression of who you are.

Tattoos are beautiful, and honestly it gives a person a chance to express who they really are through their ink. Whether you have a half sleeve, your whole body tattooed or a theme of tattoos on you, they are all an expression of who you are. You are showing others your true interests and expressing who you are as a person. For me, I have a theme, which is all about nature. This is my way of expressing my interest in nature and the world around me.

3. You're making a fashion statement.

If you have a full sleeve, half sleeve or your whole body covered you're definitely making a statement through your ink! When you're out in public you can't help but stare at other men and women who have tattoos all over them; they look awesome and you appreciate the work on their body. Some may not agree with this, but to those who share the love of tattoos (me being one of them), I adore the beauty on their body and ink.

4. You may really like a design, so go for it.

Let's face it, tattoos can sometimes just be a fashion statement, which is totally fine! You may see a design on Tumblr or Instagram that you like, so why not get it on your body? If you really like something then you shouldn't be afraid of putting it on your body (unless you hate needles or your parents are against them). Yes, tattoos are permanent, but if you really like something I say go for it! You only live once and it never hurts to live on the edge sometimes.

5. They can cover up scars.

Some people chose to get tattoos to cover scars on their bodies; it's a way of not having them visible anymore. I know people who get tattoos as a way to forget about their past and the hard times they've experienced. This can be therapeutic to someone who's dealt with depression or anxiety. Getting a symbolic tattoo to cover up the pain will help them get through anything life may throw at them and maybe it'll keep them inspired.

6. There's always a story behind each one.

Every tattoo has a story behind it, whether you got one in an extremely painful spot on your body, or the tattoo artist was really weird, or maybe someone in the room next to you was getting a tattoo on their ass; whatever it is there is always a good story behind each tattoo. So whenever you look at your body and see one of your tattoos you'll remember the story and memory behind it, which is always a good feeling.

7. You're wearing art on your body.

When you get a tattoo, your body becomes a canvas. It may sound really cheesy, but it's the truth! Your tattoo artist is creating a beautiful design on your body, so your body is truly becoming a canvas to work on. I'd say it's pretty cool knowing that for as long as you live, you'll always have your art on your body wherever you go!

8. Because they're truly awesome.

Come on, tattoos are awesome and such a remarkable thing to have! You love each one and truly you have no doubts about your decision to get them. "If you get one, you're never fully done," said the man who did my first tattoo. At first I laughed because I knew I didn't want anymore, but man was I wrong. Tattoos are awesome and something special to always have with you.

Tattoos are something you either have a passion for and love, or hate and see as a waste of time and money. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I hope this article made you realize how tattoos aren't as horrible as they may seem. By the time our generation is out working in the field, tattoos won't be the reason why we don't get hired for a job. They'll just be a part of who we are and nothing can change that.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
