8 Reasons Why My Mom Has Made Me Who I am

In This Article:

I have always followed in my mom's footsteps (literally.. I was like her tiny shadow) and she continues to inspire me to this day. As I get older I am realizing that I am more like her than I thought, and that's okay. Here are the reasons why I am who I am, because of her:

I will never give up

My mom is the reason why I will never give up. She has been the strongest, toughest person I have known my entire life and her will to keep going amazes me.

I have learned to love because of her

She is the reason why I love. She has always shown love to me through many different ways, and she did a terrific job showing me how to love, and appreciate the people and things around me.

My love for the ocean

She especially taught me how to love the ocean. The beach has always been our escape when we wanted to flee from our hometown reality. It continues to be my escape since it is conveniently only twenty minutes away from campus (this may or may not play a huge part in my choice to go to Coastal).

My desire to be tan

Due to our love for the beach, she is also the reason why I love to tan. She agrees that living a tan life is so much more appealing than when we become pale from the cold weather. We have to soak up the rays while we can!

My sense of humor

She is the reason why I am incredibly sarcastic (it's unfortunate to come across those who don't speak that language). Dry humor is my favorite humor, thanks to her.

Being free-spirited

She is the reason why I have become independent and continue to strive on my own. This is one quality in her that I am incredibly grateful for.

My fashion taste

She is the reason why I have always cared about fashion. My mom's motto is, "the brighter, the better" and while she can rock a very (VERY) bright pink top, I have picked up her spunk through the accessories or patterns I choose to wear.

My faith

She is the reason why I believe in God. My mom was the only parent who thought it was important for her children to know about religion, and understand why we should have faith in the lord. I really cannot thank her enough for that.

Overall, I can never thank my mom enough for being herself because as she was herself, she made me, into me.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
