8 Reasons Why Going To The Same College As Your Older Sibling Is The Best

Some people think that college is the best time to finally leave the comforts of home and more importantly, their siblings. I have always been blessed to consider myself to be close with my older sister. When I was doing the whole college search process however, I always thought that I wanted to be at my very own school away from her. I ended up choosing the same school and a year later, I can say with full confidence that it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I'm sure anyone else who goes to college with their sibling can relate for the same reasons.

1. You’ve already got the 101 on campus tips and tricks.

Which professors to avoid, which barista makes the best

lattes, or how to avoid losing your student I.D. card without a giant lanyard coming out of your back pocket (classic freshman move). Your older sibling has already been through at least some of it all so their advice comes from personal experiences.

2. Chances are there will be a group of upperclassmen that already know who you are.

You’ll never have to worry about whether or not you’ll be invited to a party. You’ve also got an answer to the infamous question, “Who do you know here, bro?”

3. You sometimes feel like a celebrity.

So you’re _______’s little sister! I’ve heard so much about you!” While you may pretend you’re sick of being referred to as “_______’s little sister/brother” or “Little _______” it’s always fun when people know who you are.

4. You have someone to turn to when your first of many emotional breakdowns kicks in.

You’re not quite sure if you’re ready to reveal the impressive shade of red your face becomes after two hours of crying to your new friends. Your older sibling has already seen you at your worst so you’ll never have to worry about whose shoulder to cry on.

5. You’re on the same schedule.

This is a huge blessing to your parents. No complications on when to fly in for the holidays—not to mention you have a road trip/ plane buddy.

6. College doesn’t seem so scary.

Moving away from home for the first time ever can be beyond exciting yet terrifying. When your older sibling is there, you always have a little piece of home with you.

7. You have someone who will understand your back home drama.

Your best friends back home are simply names to your new college buddies. And you don’t get that same satisfaction in complaining about something Mom said to someone who doesn’t know her. If anyone is going to understand, it’s your older sibling.

8. If they weren’t already, they’ll become your best friend.

They say college is a time where you’ll meet some of your life long best friends. You obviously didn’t meet your older sibling in college, but you get to know more about them, their beliefs, and who they truly are. Going to college with your older sibling will make you realize how seriously awesome they really are.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
