On July 29th, 2016, The Chainsmokers released their song "Closer." Since then, the song has gone platinum and was featured live during MTV'S Music Videos Awards. The song has an EDM dance sound that is both upbeat and slow. But what's all the hype about? Why are kids (and even some adults) jamming uncontrollably to this bop?

1. It's catchy

Admit it, this song is insanely addicting. It starts off slow at first, making it seem calm and relaxing. Then within seconds, a beat drops and the bass begins to roll through the tune. Somehow, The Chainsmokers have orchestrated an amazing bop that has banded people together from all different genres of music. The punk rockers love it. The classical music people love it. Heck, even those middle-class suburban housewives love it.

2. It features Halsey

Although The Chainsmokers have their name on this tune, they added on Halsey to carry the song out, which is a great choice on their end. Not only did they get someone with a big name in the music industry to help them out with their song, but they also brought in a whole new wave of listeners to hear the jam as well.

3. It makes you dream

Who doesn't want a Range Rover in the near future, right?! But aside from that, this song is somewhat like an ode to the dream that everyone longs for. As shown in the lyrics, two exes decide to rekindle the love they once had, resulting in an eventful night (that mostly took place in a backseat but I mean hey, you can't be too picky). Basically, this song shows that old love dies hard, but sometimes there's still that small chance that it can still work out.

4. It's edgy yet respectful

Although there's numerous sexual innuendos scattered across the song, it's not as bad as most of the music that is currently being played on top 40 radio stations. It's possible that song can be deemed as risque and suggestive, but The Chainsmokers keep it hidden so it can still be seen as innocent and (somewhat) family-friendly.

5. It's a great song to run to

As an avid runner, I'm always on the hunt for new music and discovering songs that will push me. When coming across this jam, I was immediately intrigued. It had this slowed-down EDM vibe that had a good beat, so I added it to my running playlist and the rest is history.

6. Symbolism is hidden in the song

"In the backseat of your Rover, that I know you can't afford". This shows that these two are still somewhat young. I mean, they run into each other in a bar and move their little reunion to a car (classic). But then, in a Rover, she can't even afford? My first impression of that line was that she either had no money or is using her parents money. Either way, she's still young and daring.

7. It literally makes you happier

That feeling that occurs when a rush of euphoria rolls through you body? Yeah, that's called dopamine, and this song produces a significant amount of it.

8. It just bumps so hard

Play it at parties. Play it at kickbacks. Heck, play it at my funeral. No matter where I am or what situation I'm in, I always find myself popping, locking and dropping when I hear this bop in public.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
