I know not everyone is not an avid watcher of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Many are busy cooking, going out to get pies, or driving to visit relatives, but the parade has always been a tradition for me. Thanksgiving morning, every year at 9 am, you’ll find me probably with a PSL on my couch watching the parade.
I don’t know what it is about the Thanksgiving Day Parade, but it has always been a staple in my Thanksgiving morning. My mom and I never miss it, and we have a goal of making it there one day to the chilly November in NYC.
Here are my top eight favorite things about the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, from the Thanksgiving turkey float to the Christmas float.
1. The floats
The decorated floats are so intricate you can tell the creators put so much time and effort into them. They’re always life-like and have so much color.
2. The hosts
The parade is hosted by NBC’s Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie, and Al Roker. They all always have fun facts and interview stars in the crowd.
3. Broadway
The parade also always features big names from new Broadway musicals. The cast performs in front of Macy's and it's usually a new Broadway show or one that debuted during the year.
4. New York City
New York City at the holidays is beautiful. Everything has lights and is decorated, and I especially love the background of the NYC Macy’s with the Christmas tree. The parade starts in Central Park and goes to Herald Square, so you get a good look at the city.
5. The balloons
The Snoopy balloon is always my favorite, but they always have so many and they are HUGE. They debut new ones every year, and this year they're debuting the second version of The Grinch.
6. The entertainment
The parade always has stars featured. They have many big names perform Christmas songs or their own songs on floats.
7. The Rockettes
The Radio City Rockettes are an essential in the parade in New York City. You can always count on them to be in their Christmas themed outfits and talentedly kick their legs up perfectly at the same exact time.
8. The tradition
The parade started in 1924 and has continued ever since, even though some floats and hosts change, the parade is still going strong. The tradition is almost 100 years old.
The 2017 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade airs Thursday, November 23rd at 9 a.m. Pacific Time.
