8 Reasons To Thank My Big Brother

Having an older brother is more than getting teased for playing with Barbies or laughed at when you wake up with crazy hair. A big brother is a body guard, a role model, and a best friend you'll have forever. Older siblings set the tone for their younger brothers and sisters. My brother has taught me a lifetime of lessons I will pass on to our younger brothers so thank you for these things and so much more.

1. Teaching Me To Laugh At Myself

You're goofy personality has certainly influenced me and the weirdo I have become. I have you to thank for the times I would normally get embarrassed but pretend that whatever quirky thing I have done was on purpose.

2. Making Me Laugh

Not only have you taught me to laugh at myself but you surely give me something to laugh about quite often. You aren't afraid to make a joke at the most inopportune times which are typically the funniest. Family functions are more entertaining because of the jokes you bring.

3. Giving Me Your Honest Opinion

You're opinion matters a lot. Whether it be a boy or a work decision you always tell me like it is and put the sugar coating aside. I respect and appreciate that tremendously. Sometimes we all need someone to set us straight and who better for the job than a big brother?

4. Teaching Me How To Put Myself First

It isn't always easy but with your help I've learned that it is okay to put myself first from time to time. I am learning that I shouldn't feel bad for everyone or make decisions for myself based on anyone but me.

5. Having My Back

Ever since childhood you've always stuck up for me no matter what. In turn, you have even taught me how to stick up for myself. From the playground to adulthood I know you will always have my back.

6. Showing Me How To Think For Myself

Whether it be politics or social trends you have always helped me to come to conclusions on my own.

7. Being My Best Friend

That's right! You'll be one of my best friends for life and there's nothing you can change about that mister! As a little sister, it is a great feeling to be able to confide in and just plain old hang out with my big brother like friends do.

8. Telling Me The Kind Of Boy I Deserve

Lastly but most importantly you've taught me what kind of boy I should be with. You have helped me decide what is important in a boy and what isn't. Through your own relationship you have even showed me how I should be treated. When it comes to who I date, I want you to become friends with this person and I want them to be someone you would like to call a brother of your own one day.

Thank you big brother, for all the little things that are really the big things.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
