1. It makes you a better driver
Once you've driven for six straight hours in LA traffic or twisted mountain roads with the distractions that come with a full car of friends, you'll be much better off.
2. You find new music
What's a road trip without music? who's playing DJ switches off every hour and no one complains and you might find something you like. The driver does get the final say, especially on volume.
3. You learn a lot about your friends
You many think you know your friends really well, maybe you've even lived with them but nothing teaches you about people like being in a car with them for days. It'll weed out the good friends that you can rely on and show you the ones that will be more likely to flake.
4. You learn a lot about yourself
Learning if you can be assertive enough with your friend group to take the lead when someone needs to step up and make a plan if the situation is good or bad it's a valuable thing to know about yourself.
5. You learn patience
Sometimes you have to learn to take be in the back seat (literally) and let someone else take control, even if you know better.
6. You learn how to be responsible
You only have to run out of gas once to learn your lesson.
7. You learn how to be resourceful
Sometimes things go wrong, popped tires, emergency bathroom breaks, getting lost, the list goes on. Being on a road trip you have to figure things out for yourself and that skill will stay with you.
8. You get to master your own destiny
Just you, your friends, and a car with no place to be, the possibilities are endless.
