* Potential spoiler warning!

Everyone is buzzing about the latest release to the DC film family, this summer's "Suicide Squad". However, before it even hit theaters, people were already criticizing and tearing apart the film, leaving many people skeptical about seeing the film, or scared to publicly admit that they are fans. To this, I say, calm down America! There are several reasons that "Suicide Squad" is not as terrible as you think.

1. Harley Quinn's outfit has very little to do with her character

In perhaps one of the most ignorant statements I have heard thus far, it seems that people just can't handle the costuming behind Margot Robbie's representation of Harley Quinn, a sassy, blonde super villain. Creators of the film have explained that Harley was not dressed in her classic jester costume because it would not fit with the modern day world that is represented in "Suicide Squad". Not to mention, has anyone read the New 52 comics? This outfit is a spin on the one used in that comic series, and she is even more covered up for this film! In watching the film, you will find there are only a handful of references to Harley's sexy attributes, and that she is one bad lady.

2. The humor is real

Just like most comic book movies nowadays, "Suicide Squad" is generous with the humor. Deadshot, played by Will Smith, brings the laughs several times throughout the film. The rest of the squad is, well, not as funny, but there are certainly other characters who have their moments. If you only needed two words that would make you want to see Suicide Squad: Will Smith. That is all.

3. Jared Leto kills it as the Joker

I'll be the first to admit it: even I was a little scared to see someone else take on the role of the Joker. He's a DC favorite in the villain department. And no one could forget just how well he was portrayed by the late Heath Ledger. But the torch has been passed in a big way. Leto's Joker is creepy, conniving and convincing. You will not walk out of the theater without wishing they had utilized his character a little more often in the film. But what we do get is a treat.

4. There are superhero cameos

If you enjoy a little superhero action in your villain movies, you can find two in "Suicide Squad". It is only for a short couple of scenes, but it's enough for you to say: "This movie has DC written all over it!" However, I wouldn't go into the theater with too much superhero love, the villains are going to be the ones to steal your heart.

5. The personal stories behind each villain will pull at your heart strings

The story of how each villain went bad is enough to bring a tear to your eye. Harley Quinn's abusive relationship is harsh, Diablo's family issues run deep and Deadshot has some serious daughter troubles. They are (kind of) personally relatable, you know, if you accidentally catch everything around you on fire or are in love with a psychopath.

6. The plot takes unexpected twists and turns: right down to the last five minutes of the film

I will not explain why the above photo has anything to do with this, you're just going to have to find out for yourself! There are at least two instances in the film where your jaw is going to drop. Things are going in one direction, and then all of a sudden, bam! OK, I'll stop talking. You need to go find out for yourself.

7. The soundtrack is everything you need on your iPod and more

Twenty One Pilots, Panic! At The Disco and Lil Wayne are all featured on the "Suicide Squad" soundtrack. There's a little old school with Bohemian Rhapsody, some rap with Sucker For Pain and even some pop punk with the movie's theme song, Heathens. Once the movie ends, you'll be running to the nearest record store to buy it. Or this day in age, to the latest computer to get your own digital copy.

8. The special effects are out of this world

You will be blown away by the crazy battle scenes and the evolution of the characters. I don't want to spoil all the fun, just know that you're going to say "WHOA!" when you see some of the wild scenes within "Suicide Squad".

Despite all of the negative critic reviews surfacing from "Suicide Squad", take it from a fan: the movie is brilliant. I saw it opening night, and I'm going back again. If that's not enough to indicate that this movie is a hit, hopefully the eight reasons about have you hitting the theaters now!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
