8 Reasons To Major In Psychology

No matter who you are or where you go, Psychology is a great field of study to pursue. From a Psychology major to any undecided college students, here are 8 reasons why you should consider majoring in Psychology.

1. It is beneficial for any job you could ever have.

No matter what career you aspire to have, odds are you are going to have to work with (and sometimes just learn to deal with) other people. Psychology allows you to better understand what makes other people tick and if nothing else, helps you learn strategies to de-stress while working with others.

2. Its perfect for both the detail-oriented and big-picture types.

Whether you are all about larger concepts or work more efficiently with little parts and pieces, there is a space for you to not only do well, but also get genuinely interested in.

3. There are so many career options in the field.

For those who know they want to stick with Psychology for their future career, you have a ton of not only job opportunities, but also a large range of different occupations to choose from. From working for a large company doing some I/O Psychology work to starting your own firm and being your own boss, there is something for everybody.

4. You have the chance to help people.

Regardless of what occupation you may choose in the field, careers in Psychology give you the unique opportunity to help people while doing something that interests you. Whether you are participating in research and helping others behind the scenes or getting up close and personal and helping people work through their problems, you have the chance to improve the lives of other people.

5. It can be combined with other areas of study.

If you have interests outside of your Psych major (no matter how unrelated they may seem), there is always an area of study where you can combine those interests. Whether it's combining Political Science and Psychology to study political polarization or combining Education and Psychology to better understand effective learning techniques or a whole array of other options, you can gain a whole new level of insight that wouldn’t have been possible without Psychology.

6. There are so many ways to learn about it.

From late night flashcard study sessions to getting hands-on experience in a lab setting, there are tons of different ways to learn the information you need to know.

7. You have a lot of freedom in choosing your classes.

No matter where you go, Psychology is a major that allows you to choose a lot of the classes that you take. Regardless of what concentration you are in, you get to take a lot of cool Psychology related electives that end up being some of your favorite courses.

8. IT’S FREAKING AWESOME!

With endless career possibilities, learning opportunities, and world-changing applications, Psychology is a very unique field of study that is unbelievably interesting and important.

Psychology is an incredibly important science and having more Psychology majors will only end up making the world a better place. Definitely consider making Psychology your field of study, you won’t regret it!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
