Power to the Pita

8 Reasons To Love Hidden Gem Naf Naf Grill

Even though I’m a picky eater, I love food and I’m always down to try a new restaurant. Naf Naf Grill might single handily be one of my favorite restaurants. If you’ve never been think of it as a Mediterranean/Middle Eastern version of Chipotle.

Here are eight reasons why I think Naf Naf Grill is the best!

1. So many choices

It has the same concept, you meet the person that give you the base of your meal. Which may consist of rice, couscous, lettuce, hummus, veggie fest or have it all stuffed in a pita. Then you move on to your protein. At the two locations in Michigan they have the option of steak shawarma, chicken shawarma or my new favorite falafel. Then if that wasn’t enough you have the option of toppings and sauces. You can choose between a mixture of sumac onions, purple cabbage, pickles, tomato and cucumber salad, garlic, tahini, amba (which is a pickled mango sauce), s’khug (is a blend of jalapeno and spices) and harissa (a blend of red chili peppers and Middle Eastern seasonings).

2. Unique twist

While some people may not consider this “real” Mediterranean/Middle Eastern cuisine it offers a unique twist on traditional Mediterranean/Middle Eastern cuisine.

3. Fresh Pita Bread

Unlike Chiptole or Qdoba where their tortilla’s a premade, Naf Naf Grill makes theirs fresh though out the day. You can even see them do it while you’re waiting in line.

4. Dessert

One of the best things about Naf Naf Grill is that they have the God of desserts. Baklava!!! I guess you can tell that I really like Baklava, you can purchase it in an individual serving or a package to share with friends. Or not.

5. Huge portions

Two people could easily share a meal from Naf Naf which is great because sharing is caring!

6. Sides

While Chiptole and Qdoba only have chips and salsa as their side Naf Naf Grill offers rice, soup and fries!! But unlike your traditional fries their fries are more in chip form. But believe me, they don’t disappoint.

7. Flavor

I’m one who likes several kinds of food. Even though I’m really picky. I love how much flavor Naf Naf Grill uses in their cooking.

8. Uniqueness

While it’s easy to go to your local mom and pop Mediterranean/Middle Eastern restaurant, I like the uniqueness of Naf Naf Grill. You don’t have to wait 15-20 mins for the restaurant to prepare your food. And you don’t have to call ahead, while you can order online, it’s really not necessary.

So, if you have a Naf Naf Grill in your area I suggest you go and give it a shot. I can 100% guarantee you that you won’t be upset. I’ve learned that other states have other options of Israeli Salad, tabouli, beef, chicken, schnitzel and kabobs. As well as having the option of a plate rather than a bowl. Does this mean that I have to visit a location out state to try other options? Possibly. Possibly.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
