8 Reasons To Love Emory & Henry College
Hannah Phillips

I didn't come to Emory & Henry until the second semester of my sophomore year, but as soon as I stepped foot on campus, I knew I was home. After a couple different colleges and bumps in the road, I made my way to Emory & Henry and have never looked back. E&H has given me incredible opportunities that I never would've had anywhere else and has taught me so much in and out of the classroom.

1. The beautiful campus

One of the first things that will stick out to you when you visit Emory & Henry is its beautiful campus. The campus is nestled in the hills of southwest Virginia and no matter where you are, you’re always surrounded by nature’s beauty. All of the buildings have a charming look to them that emulates the time period when the school was started.

2. Top-notch education

Emory & Henry offers 64 undergraduate degree programs. No matter what area of study you decide to pursue, you can be assured that there is going to be a top-notch professor to teach you. Coming to Emory & Henry means getting the best of the best education in your field of study and being set up properly for life after graduation. The school’s curriculum is set up so that you not only learn about your major but also many other subjects that will help you be more well rounded in the future. The school also offers an esteemed honors program that is challenging and empowering.

3. Faculty that is eager to help

No matter who I am dealing with, whether it be the professors or the faculty in the CSA office, there is always a smiling face ready to help you. I’ve never had a professor that did not go out of their way to help me when I needed it and was more than willing to answer any questions I have. With the student teacher ratio of 11:1, it is very easy to make lasting relationships with your professors.

4. Endless opportunities

Emory & Henry gives students a chance to apply what they are learning in the classroom to real-life situations. Whether it be volunteering opportunities, abroad trips or internships, the school provides ample resources to put you on the best track post-graduation. Emory & Henry also offers Greek life, clubs, the honors program and athletics that set you up for even more opportunities.

5. The small size

Emory & Henry has a student body of around 1,200 people. This is considered a small college for most, but I personally think it is the perfect size. Although the population is small, the school itself does not feel small. It feels more like a close-knit group than a school, but not so small that it isn't able to give you the opportunities that it does. Almost everybody at least knows of everybody else and there is always a familiar face around. You will never feel like a stranger when you’re at Emory & Henry.

6. The best people

No matter where you go on campus, you will be surrounded by awesome people. No matter what your interests are or what major you are, everyone is very welcoming and friendly. With the small school dynamic it is really easy to get to know many of the students at Emory & Henry. You are guaranteed to make life long friendships when you attend E&H!

7. There is something for everyone.

Student life at Emory & Henry is wonderful for such a small school that it is. No matter what your passions or hobbies are, I guarantee that E&H has something to offer you extracurricular-wise. Emory & Henry has over 40 student organizations and offers 13 different sports for both men and women. The school is also very active in spiritual life for students who are religious. Greek life is also a very big part of the school and offers a variety of local fraternities and sororities.

8. Wasp Athletics

Of course I can't talk about all of the amazing things about Emory & Henry without mentioning the athletics. Even though Emory & Henry is a small school, the athletics don’t feel small. With multiple national and ODAC titles, the sports at E&H offer a competitive challenge. During football games, crowds of people come out to enjoy game day at our beautiful campus. The sports bring students, parents and alumni together to support the school we all love.

The list of reasons to love Emory & Henry could go on and on, but no words will really put into perspective the beauty and everything that the school has to offer. Between the top tier education and athletics and the wonderful people that make up the student body, you are bound to fall in love.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
