8 Reasons To Join Choir At Peru State College

As a student, there are many different options of clubs and activities to get involved in. Sometimes it's hard to do them all, so, we end up having to pick a few that we want to devote our time and efforts into. Whether it's the Concert Chorale, Women's Choir, or Prestige Show Choir, there are many benefits to being involved in the vocal music program at Peru State College!

1. It's free!

Possibly the greatest thing about any of the choirs is that you can take them for zero credit; making them FREE! Who doesn't want to save money in college?

2. No homework!

One of the best things about being in choir is that fact that there's no assigned homework. Say goodbye to writing papers, reading chapters, and studying for tests. In choir, all you have to do is show up, rehearse, and try your best.

3. Build relationships!

A benefit of being a part of a choir is that you instantly make friends. There's nothing better than coming together, as humans, and connecting through music. The best part is that after some time, you will find that you become a family. Music creates a bond between people that will last a lifetime!

4. Learn new skills!

There's no excuse not to be enrolled in at least one of the choirs. Come to learn more about reading music, singing, dancing, performing, or even something unexpected. You don't have to be a music major to sing!

5. Improve academics!

Studies have proved that being involved in music helps students improve in other types of academics. Test and homework scores climb higher and you will find that it's easier to stay focused in other classes. The "brain break" that you get in choir allows you to refocus the rest of your day.

6. Free activities!

One of the perks of being in choir at Peru State is the free activities experienced as a group. Whether it's a retreat day, an afternoon of bowling, or free sports outings, there's always fun involved!

7. Expand your horizons!

A lot of people don't sing in choir because they've never done it before and are too afraid. The great thing about choir is the low pressure of coming together to simply do music. You don't have to worry about being good enough, knowing everything, or having all of the skills. Come to choir to learn something new, get involved, and have fun. Even if you've never done it before, now's the perfect time!

8. Free food!

Who doesn't love free food?! Food shows up in all sorts of places when you're in choir. This includes retreat days where we do a snack potluck, the times that someone randomly brings treats to rehearsal, and after concerts when we have cookie receptions.

As you just read, there are SO MANY benefits of joining choir at Peru State. So, what are you waiting for?! Join us!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
