Over the years I've had friends come and go, but I've had a few that have always stayed. I have been in college prep programs since my freshman year of high school and most of the program's population were African Americans. Most of the great friends I've made through the programs grew up in African home. I've had amazing opportunities to learn so much about their culture and them as people. I thought I would share just a few details about my friendships!
- They’re super reliable.
- They learn from a young age to always respect everyone, regardless of age, social status, gender, etc.
- They can cook some mean noodles, rice or chicken.
- Africans practically live on rice, noodles and chicken.
- You never have to ask them to speak up.
- Especially when you’re on the phone.
- They’ll always help clean the house.
- They’re so used to doing it at home, it’s natural.
- They’re accents are the cutest.
- Especially when they’re mad.
- They’re good at soccer, well most of them.
- And mostly can out run you.
- They always spend Sundays at church.
- Church starts at 9 a.m. and you leave at 4 p.m.
- And most importantly, they’re always there for you.
- Through the thick and thin they will always have your back and will never leave your side.
