8 Reasons Why I Became A Cedar Crest Falcon

This is the best decision I have ever made!

It's funny to think that a year ago at this time, I had no idea where I was going to spend the next few years of my life. I had visited colleges and attended open houses but my final decision wouldn't be made until a couple months later. Cedar Crest College was my first choice by far, and as soon as I was told that I was accepted, I was jumping up and down and dancing around the house. I chose CCC right there on the spot, and here's why becoming a Falcon was the easiest decision I have ever made!

1. It was love at first sight.

It's sappy, but it's true! As soon as I stepped foot on campus at an open house, I felt at home. Maybe it was the beautiful stone buildings, or maybe it was the flowering trees that I could picture myself "studying" under. No matter what it was, all I know is that I jump at every chance to visit this amazing campus, and living here has become my dream!

2. It's the perfect location.

For me, CCC is only half an hour away from my house, and I love it. I didn't want to be too far away from home. I know this doesn't apply to everyone, and if you're not from this area, let me know! I'll be happy to show you around! The Lehigh Valley is a beautiful area.

3. Service here is very important.

Community service is something that I wish I was more involved in when I was younger. I just always seemed to be too busy (I know it's not an excuse, but that's the only reason I can think of). So when I found out that CCC provides many opportunities for students to help out in the community, I was ecstatic. I can't wait to make a difference and meet new people in the process.

4. The education is top notch.

I have yet to hear one negative comment about the education students receive at CCC. Not only are the classes focused on providing all the tools and information that will help students find jobs after they graduate, but many of them involve hands-on activities. It's reassuring to know that the education I'll be receiving will prepare me for the future ahead.

5. There's something for everyone.

Whether you're an athlete, a mathlete, a bookworm, or someone who just wants to try something new, the options are endless at CCC. There's clubs and teams as far as the eye can see. I love that all interests are included here and I can't wait to meet other students who have the same interests as me!

6. We have the best President ever!

I would say that maybe I'm a little biased, but it's the honest truth! I remember how inspired I was when we left the auditorium after listening to her welcoming speech. My mom even joked about taking classes here all due to President Ambar's motivating story. She's a down-to-earth, welcoming, and supportive role model in this school and community, and she's a great example of the women leaders that Cedar Crest College is known for.

7. The staff is all about the students.

The faculty and staff at CCC supports every student in and outside of the classroom. I was in shock when I emailed my admissions counselor one day and received a response within 15 minutes. I rarely got that quick of a response from my high school teachers, and I saw them everyday! It makes the transition into college a lot easier knowing that there's always someone there who can answer my questions and help me out.

8. The girls here are one big family.

Cedar Crest is a smaller college, very similar to how my high school was. And there's this personal and intimate touch that can be hard to find at bigger schools where there's loads more of students. You get to know everyone a lot easier and create friendships that last a lifetime. I walked out of those open houses feeling like I was already a part of the school. I've already been very lucky to have met and bonded with girls through The Odyssey, and it makes me see how close-knit CCC really is. This school is a family made up of students who care for each other and cheer for one another, and I couldn't be more excited to be a part of that.

With move-in day creeping up on us, it can be a little (or very) intimidating for freshman like me, who are beginning a whole new chapter in their lives. Whenever I find myself stressing about living away from home or starting new classes, I think of all the reasons why I fell in love with Cedar Crest in the first place, and then I realize how excited I am to start this new adventure! My future as a Falcon is looking bright! Cedar Crest, here I come!

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
