If you're in college, the only books you (sometimes) open are those ridiculously overpriced 1.5 ton textbooks. You'll read a few pages, skim a few pages, close the book and call it a day. While this reading is (mostly) useful for college classes, reading classic literature and poems, fun books are quickly going out of practice from our generation. There is something about delving into a novel, or book of any sort, that has readers always looking for another book to peruse.
Here are a few reasons to open that one book that has been accumulating dust on your bed stand over the years:
It's like there's a movie in your head!
You can decide what the characters and the setting actually look like based on the authors description. Sometimes you can become so involved with what is happening in the book that the visualization of the words actually seem like a movie.
It can relieve stress.
Escaping reality and reading a few chapters in a book is a great way to clear your head.
Your vocabulary will improve.
You'll find yourself using words that you haven't seen since studying for the SAT.
It's portable entertainment.
Going on a long car or airplane ride? Bring a book! You might get bored of playing 2048 after a while.
You look smart.
Carrying a book around will instantly make you look 5 times smarter.
Taking adventures without doing anything. ![](data:image/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2000/svg'%20viewBox='0%200%20196%20160'%3E%3C/svg%3E)
Except for opening the book and reading it.
You can begin to recommend books to friends and family.
So they can discuss the plot with you!
Every set of words has a deeper meaning.
It's your job to find it, process it, and apply it.
