There is no doubt in the world that Radford University has one of the prettiest campuses in Virginia, but I am almost certain that fall and spring is the time of year that catch everyone's eyes. Fall is great because you have the changing of the leaves, everyone's coming back to campus, but it's also that mix of warmth and coldness that people love. Spring time, though, is transitioning from the cold to warm, everything, such as flowers and trees, are blooming, the birds are coming out and singing, and it's also a reminder that the school year is closely coming to an end. I would have to say that the warm spring weather has my heart at Radford University and in Radford City. Here are a few more reasons as to why spring time in Radford is the best.
1. Moffett Lawn.
Moffett Lawn is probably ranked #1 on my Favorite Things about Radford list. Just bring a hammock, blanket, music, food and some friends and you'll be set for hours just basking in the warmth of the Spring sun. You have to get there quick, though. Hammock spots run out pretty quickly on Moffett Lawn due to there only being about 5-6 spots. You can always find yourself over near Jefferson, Muse, or even Reed/Curie's lawn with a hammock.
2. More Dogs.
Dogs are on campus pretty much all year long. But if we're being honest, not many people want to walk their dogs and play with them when it's 30 degrees or less outside. So the bright side is, we normally see more puppies, more dogs that actually want to interact with human beings, or we can just enjoy watching a good game of fetch outside.
3. Beautiful views
Radford has always been known for its stunning views. Being in the center of the mountains means the beauty of nature is all around us. There's almost never a time when you walk outside and don't like what you're seeing. Especially during spring time, when you have all the flowers blossoming and trees budding.
4. You actually don't mind walking to classes.
It's known that you can get anywhere on campus in 10 minutes or less. However, in the cold weather that feels like an eternity almost. In the springtime, it feels like a short little stroll and you don't feel as if you have to bundle yourself up in 4 layers of clothes just to walk from Muse to Chubs.
5. Getting up earlier becomes easier.
Who doesn't want to see the sun rise on a beautiful spring day? Along with what I said on my nature point, it's amazing to just walk outside and catch eyes with the most beautiful piece of art that God has ever created. The mountains, the rolling hills, the flowers, the trees, Oh my it is so gorgeous.
6. Baseball and softball games
Because yum. Also, It's great to interact with other people at the games. PLUS sometimes there's free stuff involved.
7. You don't mind staying at CHUBS super late.
Walking home at 2 AM sounds bad, but when it's in 70-degree weather it's kind of hard to complain. In the winter it felt like you were in a scene from titanic sometimes, but in the spring it just feels like there's not change from the inside to the outside.
8. You meet new people, surprisingly.
And I mean, honestly, surprisingly shouldn't even be there. Of course, you're going to meet new people, that's what college is about. But if you hang on Moffett Lawn, go to any intramural sport, or even attend some of the events at the Bonnie, then you are bound to meet some amazing to people to ever set foot in your life.
I have never doubted that Radford is a beautiful campus, not even in the winter time. Spring time just has its perks. I mean you have your halfway break, you are almost out for the summer, and for some reason, the food just seems to taste better in the Spring. Grab a hammock, a good book to read and some amazing friends and just have the time of your life this Spring in Radford.
