I can’t even remember why I’m still signed up for cable.

The more the Internet grows and expands, the more it introduces new systems that come to replace traditional ways of life.

This has occurred with the integration of digital readings rather than physical books, usage of GPS systems over printed maps, and the introduction of Netflix that has come to replace TV systems in many households. While many of us do still have TVs, Netflix has transformed the at-home viewing experience so that a cable subscription is not necessary. For less than $10 a month, a Netflix account gives you access to viewing TV shows, movies, and documentaries of various genres and types.

Clearly, Netflix is winning, and here are 8 reasons why.

1. No commercials

Long gone are the days where one needs to endure what feels like hours of commercial breaks separating scarce minutes of the actual show. Netflix has found the ultimate hack to the viewing experience by eliminating commercials completely so that we can watch in peace.

2. It’s affordable

Netflix accounts can go for as little as $7.99 a month, which amounts to approximately $96 a year. For the amount of movies and TV shows that are available to you for that price, you’re definitely getting your money’s worth. Depending on what shows you watch, it’s also possible that having this account means you can easily cancel your cable subscription.

3. It enables your binge-watching habits

For binge-watchers like myself, Netflix is a beautiful reality that makes dreams come true. They have seasons available at a time so you don’t need to wait weeks between episodes. In addition, once you finish an episode, the next one will automatically begin seconds later so you don’t even need to push a button. You can just sit there and get your entertainment for hours.

4. Streaming quality is always on point

Personally, I can’t enjoy watching something if it’s not in HD. As if it were handed to us by the angels above, Netflix offers all its programs in high quality so that we don’t have to suffer.

5. Allows you to create a watch list

The whole experience gets ten times better with the ability to create your own list of what you want to watch in the future. The only thing that lets me get through a TV show is the knowledge that there’s more waiting for me under the “My List” tab. It also gets me excited about what’s to come!

6. It has pretty much anything you would want to watch

Between TV shows and movies, one can choose between various genres and types, including classics, stand-up and talk shows, LGBTQ, musicals, thrillers, sports movies, international, and numerous documentaries. When in the mood to watch a movie, I can’t imagine you wouldn’t be able to find something to match your cravings.

7. You can watch your shows or movies from anywhere

You can sign into your account from any laptop or iPad wherever you are! This means you can watch from your bed even though your parents won’t buy you a TV, on vacation across the country, at a friend’s house, or even the library. All you need is WiFi and you’re good to go.

8. Accounts can be shared

Two people can use an account at once (and with an upgraded account even more people can use it), so you can even split the cost with a friend! Netflix already offers a low price for what they’re offering you, and the ability to share it with someone else makes it even more affordable.

Netflix has so many perks and really knows how to facilitate my binge-watching ways. Now that I think about it, I can’t even remember why I’m still signed up for cable! Television has been revolutionized, and Netflix has won the game.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
