Marching band is hard work which means band members work hard and we will work hard for our jobs too.

8 Reasons Marching Band Members Make the Best Employees
The Sound Wave Marching Band

This is my third year participating in marching band including my high school participation so I'm quite biased, but these are legitimate reasons why band members make the best employees.

1. We're punctual

When the band director says be there at 5, he means 4:45. So the band shows up at 4:30. We will never be running late for work and on the off chance some emergency happened and we are late for work, we will be actually running.

2. We're good at working together.

We originally find our spots with drill sheets and coordinates but after a couple rehearsals we line up with each other to create the amazing gigantic shapes. We have to work together to line up and make the image readable.

3. We want to help each other.

That one kid on the wrong side of the field makes everyone look bad so we all pitch in to make sure the people who are supposed to be around us are where they're supposed to be. As Dr. Aarhus says, "Friends don't let friends march out of line."

4. We work hard.

We don't want a performance to look bad so we put sweat, tears, spit, snot, and our last vital bit of breath into making a show look and sound as good as we can. We actually give it our all. 90% is good in other classes but in band, that's failing. We will work hard to do our best at whatever task is in front of us.

5. We show up.

When someone misses a band practice, it's hard for people around them to adjust which makes that rehearsal just a little more difficult. Also, the person who missed is gonna be behind on the new drill, music, or movements we learned that day. It's just easier to not miss practices. It's also easier to not fall behind at work. So we just won't take sick days. I did say we put snot into making a show look good.

6. We follow instructions.

When people don't listen, it's a long day of rehearsal and people get frustrated. We shut up and listen to get things done so we can all get out of the sun. We have to keep up with instructions outside of band too. Send us an important email or text and we will read it within the hour and do whatever we need to get done.

7. Time management.

In order to take classes, have a social life, and participate in other activities we have to manage our time to make sure everything gets done. It's easy to plan for because games and practices take a specific amount of time out of every week.If there's a deadline, we will meet it or beat it. Early is on time,

8. We're understanding.

Band is one of the most diverse groups on any campus. I have yet to meet someone who doesn't like music. Music brings people together. Band members can grow and benefit from that diversity.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Recently I completed my freshman year of college, and boy, what an experience. It was a completely new learning environment and I can't believe how much I learned. In an effort to save time, here are the ten biggest lessons I learned from my first year of college.

1. Everyone is in the same boat

For me, the scariest part of starting school was that I was alone, that I wouldn't be able to make any friends and that I would stick out. Despite being told time and time again that everyone had these same feelings, it didn't really click until the first day when I saw all the other freshman looking as uneasy and uncomfortable as me. Therefore, I cannot stress this enough, everyone is feeling as nervous as you.
