We've reached the point where list articles, or listicles, are everywhere. You can find one about almost anything from things to do during the summer to reasons every dog needs a cat best friend to ways to annoy your sibling. By this point these articles are taking the Internet by storm and consuming our news feeds. I, for one, am getting tired of all of these articles, and for good reasons.
1. The topics are clichés.
Everywhere you look you can find an article about the stereotypical teenage interests. Dating, relationships, sappy letters to old friends--they're everywhere and they all say the same things.
2. There are 485,237 of the same article.
As if it wasn't bad enough that most of the articles lack creativity, there are a million of the same articles. The first article of ideas for the perfect date was interesting, but seeing 12 articles about having a "person" is too much.
3. Every item has a tacky photo.
Each number in the list came with its own photo of something that was hopefully relevant to what the item was, but sometimes they just don't make sense.
4. They've overtaken my news feed.
I like a well written article as much as the next person, but I would like to see something other than random lists when I check social media.
5. Some of the points don't make any sense.
It's like the author ran out of ideas but needed more words, so they threw in something random, like reason number 10 of why your dog should wear a crown: she's actually Princess Fifi McFlufferson.
6. By the end you're not even reading what's below the picture.
What's typed here doesn't even really matter any more. You don't care what it says and the author is lucky that you've even acknowledged the headings up to this point, let alone appreciating the pictures they worked so hard to put in the article.
7. If you've made it to this point it's because you're only looking at the headings.
Even now, the headings barely matter to you. You've gotten the point of what the article is about, but you don't really care any more.
8. Conclusions don't even matter.
If the author takes the effort to write a conclusion it's basically pointless, because you probably won't even make it to the end of the article. If you do, there's a very low chance that you'll even read any conclusion that's not a bold number in the list.
