8 Reasons Why I Want to Become My Sorority Sisters

8 Reasons Why I Want to Become My Sorority Sisters

1. A Sense of Community

I am never happier than when I am with my sisters. We live together, work together, and go to parties together. I feel like part of a wonderful community when I'm with them. We are so close already, we may as well combine into a single being. Then we could truly be one.

2. Unconditional Support

I know that my sisters will be there for me no matter what I'm going through. When Conor and I broke up after his frat party, my sisters were there for me. I would love to take their kind, supportive words and hear them inside my own head. We are an invaluable support system to each other; if we were to combine identities, we could support one another within our one collective mind.

3. Kelly

Kelly is a really cool girl. She was there for me through my breakup with Conor as well as the time I failed out of chemistry. I love Kelly; she is my sister and my best friend. I can't help but wonder what it would be like to share her skin and her mind as well as her friendship.

4. More Arms

I have two arms now. Imagine how my dancing would improve if I had the arms of my sisters; I could bake hundreds of brownies for our house, hang endless sorority posters around campus, and complete many more service projects than I can now in my weak human form.

5. Personal Growth

This reason is similar to #5. In addition to growing physically, becoming my sorority sisters would help us to grow mentally and emotionally. If my sisters and I were to become each other, we would all grow as people. I would take on their thoughts and experiences; my memories of Conor would combine with Amber's memories of her ex-boyfriend Chad, and Taylor's memories of that Irish boy she dated when her family lived abroad for a year. Maybe combining our emotions would help all of us to get over them more quickly and more easily.

6. Giving Back

One of our sorority's highest values is giving back to our community. We regularly help with service projects around campus and in our neighborhood. With the strength and tenacity of many women combined into one, we could help our community on a scale more enormous than we have ever imagined. We could rake hundreds of yards, paint countless campus buildings, and maybe egg Conor's frat house.

7. World Domination

If I were to become my sisters, we would be unstoppable. Apart, we are a great sorority; as one body and one mind, we would be an undeniable force. We would take over our campus, then our city, and eventually the world. I'd love to see Conor's face then.

8. Makeup and Clothes!

I already borrow Amber and Kelly's clothes almost every day! If we had one body and one mind, we could dress every day from everyone's closets. All the girls in our sisterhood knows that Taylor has the best makeup on campus; the lip gloss she wore to the spring formal was to die for. If we became each other, I could experience that lip gloss through Taylor's eyes. What a dream!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
