Listen. It's super easy to get wrapped up in the negative articles that address the people you miss and things you no longer have in your life. While it's good to reflect on times of trouble, let's keep in mind you still have a friend or two around. I don't know about you, but my best friend is a god save. She wears too many hats to even count, meaning she’s literally always helping someone in some special way. This being said, I want to appreciate her as best as I can, so here are some things I'd like to thank her for. I hope you can relate to these things as well.
1. Thanks for always paying me back. That sounds so materialistic, but you know I've had my fair share of people never paying me back. You always even your dues, whether it's in food or gas money of gifts, whatever. You've made my day just by giving me a bagel when I pick you up from work or by paying for my gas when you have nothing left to give. It’s a quality of yours that I will ever stop appreciating.
2. Thanks for treating my family like your own. We all know my younger brothers are weird, but not once in your life have you ever disregarded them. You've moved your schedule around to see their games, never complained when I brought them with us to the mall, and would literally drop everything to make sure they're okay. Not everyone treats them like that, so knowing you love them and can take care of them is something I’ll forever love about you.
3. Thanks for hating the same people I do. As petty as it sounds, there's something special about sharing the same undeniable disgust for someone. We've bonded over despising someone's existence, and we've spent more than enough time together to know that hatred is stronger as a team than as a single sport.
4. Thanks for pushing me out of my comfort zone. You have always encouraged me to take leaps of faith, and you always know how scared I can get when it's something I don't want to hear. My “tough girl” act a only gets so tough until you see through me, and you know exactly when to call my bluff. If I didn't have you in my life, I wouldn't be half as confident in myself as I am now.
5. Thanks for helping me understand my worth. Whether it's making me understand that I work hard enough to buy a new pair of sneakers, or encouraging me to buy a dress I look great in, you've always reminded me of just how much worth I have. We played softball together in high school, but sometimes I think you would've been a better cheerleader because you're always supporting me and making me feel like the sky’s the limit.
6. Thanks for showing me your soft spots. It's hard to open up and cry. I rarely ever do it, and you do it even less than me. It takes a strong breed of woman to ball your eyes out about your family or some douchebag guy. I want you to know that you opening up has validated me and my tears as well. I'm still not a crier, but maybe I'll cry in front of you again soon, because I have learned that sometimes a good cry can really change my perspective.
7. Thanks for dealing with my bullshit. You know how I get. When I make up my mind, I cut people off and block out my emotions. I could care less about anyone if they've done me wrong, but you somehow manage to change me. Even if it's just my outlook in a situation, you put up with my stupidity and sometimes even twist my mind to wanting something different. You might be the only person I know who matches my level of crazy, and I think because of this you compliment me in just the right way.
8. Thanks for being my superhero. You are so strong and so empowering, you have an aura that is truly untouchable. You have this way of enchanting everyone around you, and you never truly make enemies with people. You always take the higher path, even if it's a harder trek to travel. You constantly remind me that you're 8 days older than me, but sometimes you feel like 8 years older. Your wisdom is beyond your years and I honestly don't know how I would've gotten through my darkest times without you. Thanks for being my super hero in shining armor.
