8 Reasons Why Frasier Crane Is My Ideal Dream Man

I spent the past month in San Diego hanging out with my aunt. After dinner, we would usually watch the Hallmark Channel, and every night there would be back to back episodes of The Golden Girls, and Frasier. I became hooked on both shows. On my flight back to Boston, I ended up binge-watching season one of Frasier on Netflix, and low-key fell for the main character, Dr. Frasier Crane. So here we are…

Frasier (played by Kelsey Grammer) and his brother, Niles (played by David Hyde Pierce) are psychiatrists in Seattle. You may also remember Frasier from Cheers! When Frasier is not meeting with patients, he hosts a radio show helping all of his callers meet their mental health needs. First off, I am a Psychology student, so that alone won me over. But I believe that Dr. Frasier Crane would be my dream man. Here are some of my reasons:

1. I mean come on, just look at him…

Okay, he may not be everyone’s type, he’s certainly not the sexiest man alive, but I find him very charming. He has great manners, dresses very well, and has an excellent dialect.

2. He Specializes in Mental Health

It’s not the fact that he studied Psychiatry at Harvard, really just anybody who makes mental health priority is huge to me. Even outside of his jobs, he really listens to people. He once babysat a teenager, and it was clear that she was upset. Instead of Frasier telling her that she's a teenager, and is having irrational thoughts, he sits down and asks what she is feeling, and why she feels what she feels. This is what I love most about Frasier, he doesn't dismiss people, he really listens to everyone.

3. Greatly respects women

While he has dated many women, and have had a few unsuccessful marriages, he treated each and every woman with respect. If he wanted to break up, he would let them down nicely. He once dated a woman, and her ex-boyfriend was a caller on his show, but he broke up with her because he personally felt that it was wrong. Although his callers are not his patients, he treats them as if they were.

4. Has a Great Relationship with his Father

His father, Martin (played by John Mahoney) and his dog, Eddie (played by Moose) moved into Frasier’s apartment in the first episode. Since they have been living together, Frasier really wanted to develop a stronger relationship with him, as the seasons go on they become closer and closer.

5. He’s best friends with his brother

While Niles may not live with Frasier, they both spend time together almost every day whether it’s at Frasier’s apartment or at the local coffee shop. Sometimes they treat each other like patients. One night, Frasier had a bad dream and Niles asked him to recall every part of the dream he remembers. Niles would identify the symbols, and tell Frasier what each one represents. Even as brothers, they still take their mental health seriously with one another.

6. He cares very deeply

Just through season one, you see him experience a lot of emotions. While he initially as quick to tell his ex-wife Lilith that he did not want to get back together, he still told himself to explore his feelings before he’s absolutely sure that he made the right decision. Or when he found out that his late mother cheated on his father several years ago. Even as a grown man, he cried. He knows that cheating is absolutely wrong, so it really hurt him when it happened in his family.

7. The dog loves him!!

Eddie was always drawn to Frasier. When a dog is attached to a human, it means that the dog trusts them a lot. Eddie feels safe around Frasier, the dog goes to him for comfort. Even when Frasier is not in the apartment, Eddie still goes to him for comfort, and sometimes a picture will just have to do. I don’t know about you, but that hits me right in the feels. Dogs are a gift from the gods, and it is such an honor to earn the trust of a dog.

8. He’s like a teddy bear!

You’re lying if you don’t want a hug from him, I imagine he gives great hugs. He just looks so friendly and approachable. As you’re watching the show, you’ll begin to pick up that vibe more and more. I wasn’t sure how I felt about him in the very first episode, but after about five episodes in, the main character has really grown on me.

I heard this somewhere a couple days ago, and it really stuck with me. We tend to become emotionally attached to TV characters because we see them experience a variety of emotions. It is like we’ve known them our whole lives. And as you can see, I am a prime example of this. After watching god knows how many episodes on the plane, I’ve seen Frasier experience a lot of things.

Will I watch season one all over again when I’m done with the series? I won’t be surprised if I actually do, but I still have a long way to go, thankfully.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week.
