1. Guaranteed Saturday Plans Every Week
With the exception of bye week, almost every week of the season you have a day full of Saturday plans. Whether it’s a morning, afternoon, or night game you know that the game and all of the things that go along with are bound to consume the majority of your day. From tailgates, to rain delays, to after-parties, game-days will no doubt keep you busy and having a good time for hours on end.
2. Tailgates!
Whether you’re tailgating at a frat house or at the stadium, one of the highlights of game day is the fun that comes before the actual game even starts. And don’t forget all the free burgers, donuts, pancakes, drinks, and random trinkets that come from these… after all, college students practically live for free food.
3. Game day outfits.
Let’s face it, one of the highlights of football season is getting to dress for it. You have an excuse to buy a ridiculous amount of clothes in your school colors that you might only wear one time. But, it’s worth it for that cute Instagram you get at the game. And it’s always fun to have an excuse to shop.
4. Ridiculous amounts of school spirit.
On game day everyone brings their A-game when it comes to repping their school. My favorite form of expressing this spirit is through an obnoxious amount of sorority pins claiming that I “back the bears”. And we can’t forget the face tattoos, green and gold glitter, and the occasional bear suit. And nothing beats the hype that comes out of the “kill” chant or the uncoordinated chaos that comes when we make a touchdown.
5. Post-win celebrations.
Hitting the bars or a party with your friends is a great way to celebrate a solid win. Especially when the fight song randomly comes on and everybody gets hype like you’ve never seen them before. However, when we lose, it’s probably best that you just call it a night and hit the hay. Nothing good ever happens after a loss.
6. Running the line.
This becomes a lot more fun when you’re up in the stands because you get to see people sprint their hardest only to get knocked down time and time again by fellow freshman all trying to make it to the end of the tunnel (and to front row seats at the game). It’s not so much fun when you’re the one getting toppled over and stepped on. But, it’s basically a rite of passage that you’ve just got to go through and it definitely serves as a good source of entertainment to those watching from safety.
7. Green and gold everywhere.
From the stadium to the stands, it’s everywhere.
8. Unity.
But, the best part about game day is getting to see everybody united and getting together to have a great Saturday watching the bears. From alumni who are coming back to visit for the first time in 30 years to little babies who might end up being a part of these traditions in the future, it’s fun to see everyone coming together for the same cause.
