Yoga is an activity that is often overlooked in terms of health and wellness, it is a lot more than just stretching, and can really improve many aspects of your health. The following are 8 reasons why I believe everyone should do yoga at least once!

1. It improves flexibility

With repeated practice, yoga continually improves flexibility. For someone who used to barely be able to touch my toes, I can almost put my hands on the floor.

2. It clears your mind

This is a stereotype of yoga that is actually true, the calm and relaxation of a good practice can give you a clear mind to be productive for the day.

3. No one judges you

Everyone is at different skill levels, despite maybe taking the same classes. There are ways to modify poses to make them easier or more difficult, depending on your skill level or ambition.

4. You break a great sweat

I prefer Power Flow Hot Yoga, which is done in a room that is heated to a toasty 95-100 degrees. Power Flow yoga is more than just stretching, it works on full body strength, balance, flexibility, and controlled breathing. Even regular Vinyasa Flow yoga can bring a good sweat throughout the class.

5. It is a great workout

An hour of Hot Power Flow Yoga is said to burn 620 Calories (for a 150 lb female) , which is equivalent to 56 minutes running 6 miles per hour on a treadmill, no thank you.

6. Student discounts

Many studios offer a student introductory pass for way less than regular price, and after that student prices are still significantly less than normal. Other places also opportunities to help out at the studio in exchange for free class passes.

7. Comfy Outfits

What is more comfortable than leggings and a tank top? Not too much! Not to mention you do not wear shoes while practicing yoga, which is something I am a huge fan of.

8. Helps Prevent Injuries

Yoga is proven to better your bone health, which in turn helps to prevent injury. It also prevents cartilage and joint breakdown.

I encourage you to find a local Yoga studio and to try a class by yourself or with friends or family. It is a great form of exercise that offers all around benefits and can drastically improve your health. Namaste!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
