8 Reasons Every Child Should Grow Up with A Dog

If you're considering getting a family dog, then do it. You will not regret this decision. Growing up with a dog had taught me so many life lessons. There are many benefits to raising a dog and I'm going to outline them.

1. Teaches Responsibility.

There is nothing like taking care of a dog, especially a puppy. You have to go through so many stages in the beginning, like potty training them, keeping up with their energy, and teaching them to behave. It's like you turn your back for one second and the puppy is in the trash or peeing on the carpet. While this sounds bad, the bright side is that there is no choice other than to be responsible. So as a child, you learn that you have to feed and give water on a regular basis. You have to let them outside to go to the bathroom. You have to take them for walks, so they can get their exercise and burn some energy. A child quickly learns that a puppy isn't something you can ignore, but you have to take care of. it's a great way for them to learn responsibility at a young age.

2. Kids will be More Active.

Puppies tend to be very hyper and active at a young age and throughout life. Since they have so much energy to burn, it means that they need a partner to play with, a.k.a. a child. This is the perfect opportunity for a child to get outside and run around. It gives them a reason to run around or go for walks, which is great for their health.

3. Improves Social Skills.

Having a puppy will help improve your child's social skills. You will quickly notice when having a puppy you will get approached by a lot more people than normal. Children tend to become very attached to their companions, and they are very proud to own them. In fact, they like to show their dogs off and brag to others. This will help your child become more outgoing and social when it comes to meeting new people.

4. Improves Emotional Intelligence.

They say having a dog is like having a child, and boy are they right. You become so attached to your dog, and you will do anything for them, just like a child. When children grow up with a dog in the family, they know what that connection feels like, and they tend to be very compassionate. They don't want to see their dog sick or in pain. It makes them more aware of how they not only treat their dog, but how they treat others. Overall, they get a better handle on reading and handling emotions.

5. You Have Your Own Therapist.

My favorite part about having a dog is simply their listening ear. You can literally tell them anything you want, and they can't tell a soul! So, you can cry, vent, complain, or simply tell them about your day, and they will love it, because they love you. There's nothing better than having a long day at work and coming home to a dog that is so excited to see you. And even though they can't talk, they can read emotions. They know when you're hurting, and they will give you all the love that you need.

6. Brings Families Together.

When having a dog, it gives everyone in the family something in common. When each one of you love the same dog profusely, it makes your bond that much stronger. Just knowing that each one of your family members would do anything for your dog, just like you would, makes everyone respect and trust each other. It also forces you to communicate with one another, by deciding who will feed the dog or take it on walks or watch him when going on vacation, etc...

7. They're GREAT Cuddle Buddies.

I mean, their is nothing better than having your fury best friend take a nap with you. Literally any size, it doesn't matter, cuddling with a dog will never get old. Most dogs are so eager to lay with you (or on you) and give you the love that you need.

8. Becomes their Best Friend.

Like I mentioned before, even though dogs can't talk, they still hold such a large part of your heart. You quickly can't even imagine what life would be like without them. They truly become your best friend, someone that you can't wait to spend time with each day.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
