At first, it may sound like a daunting task, but owning a small business seems to have many perks.

Many of us have dreams beyond our college degrees, mine just happens to be opening a coffee shop.

Looking past the logistics of possibly being a small business owner someday, I believe owning a coffee shop would be a task many of us would love to take on.

So, below are 8 reasons why opening your own espresso shop sounds like a perfect idea:

1. Family

I think one of the best ways to successfully, and happily, open a coffee shop is to get family involved. Allow them to brainstorm with you, look for spaces with you, and help you figure out those daunting logistics.

Also, just the idea of being around family every day sounds pretty good to me.

2. Local Economy

Opening up a coffee shop in small town, or even a small city, would allow your business to be a part of the local economy. You would have small business neighbors and friends, regular customers, and will understand the town even more than before.

Helping out the local economy financially, I think, would be a very rewarding feeling.

3. The People - All Walks of Life

Owning any business will allow you to encounter people from all walks of life.

That's pretty cool, right?

I love learning about other people's background and hearing their unique stories.

Coffee shops are the perfect place for people to open up to you, their friends and family, or their colleagues.

4. Booming Popular Culture

Let's face it, the consumption of coffee has increased because of well-known coffee corporations, aka Starbucks.

Opening up a small coffee shop almost guarantees successful business, if you do everything right, because of this desire to drink coffee.

It's a go-to hot spot for business lunches. It's a perfect place for college students to do homework. It's a perfect date night location. And it's a nice place to hang out with family.

5. You Can Be Your Own Boss - Authority

Want to close on Thanksgiving Day? Okay, that's fine.

Want to hire new workers? That's fine.

Need a day off? Sure, you can do that.

Having that kind of authority over your small business sounds like a lot of fun.

6. Decorating

It's your coffee shop, so decorate it however you please.

You can create a retro space, a cozy space, and rustic space, or a combination of the three.

It would be completely up to you.

7. It's A Really Good Backup Plan

Maybe one day you wake up and think, "I'm just not happy with my current career."

Opening up a small business, particularly a coffee shop, is a great way to get away from your unhappy job,

You would be around people all day, you would be your own boss, and you would potentially be doing something you loved.

8. Simply A Love For Coffee Shops

Over the past couple of years, I've grown to love sitting in a coffee shop with friends or family.

Even more, I love doing work or reading.

I think creating a space like that for other people would be satisfying.

Getting the courage to open your own coffee shop may seem scary at first, but I think it sounds like the perfect reward.

Especially if you're a coffee lover like me.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
