8 Reasons College Friends Are Your Best Friends

You may think that you have all the friends you need in your life while in high school, but I can promise you that you will lose some of those so called "best friends" along the way and once you start college. Yeah, you might keep one or two close friends from high school through your college years, but you will also find and make some new best friends in college that are going to stay with you through this journey and even after graduating college! Take it from me, a college sophomore, why the friends you make in college are going to be your actual best friends:

1. They will be a clean slate.

You will not have to worry about them holding a grudge on you for something that you did back in the 8th grade! This is a chance for you to start over and be yourself with people.

2. They are your choice.

From kindergarten through twelfth grade, you were basically stuck with the same people who you had to be friends with or just be nice to. Now, you are on your own, and can make the choice of whether or not you want them to be your friends.

3. They will always be up for adventure.

These are the friends that will be willing to make a Sheetz run or any food run at midnight with you! They will also be the ones who won't say no to a random drive around town or campus while blasting music in the car.

4. You do not always have to be together.

Sure, you may go to lunch or dinner together here and there, but you don't need to be with them 24/7. They understand that you have other things to do and you also understand that no matter where they are that they are still your friends!

5. You will be each other's biggest fans.

No matter how bad of a day one of you might be having, you always can count on the others to be there for you giving you love and support. Also, you can always count on having your own fan section regardless of the situation.

6. They accept and will add to your weirdness.

One great thing about college friends is that they will accept your weirdness because they think that is who you are when they first meet you! They will also add to this and start acting like each other, it is great having friends who can be yourself around!

7. They will always be there to listen.

If you ever need to talk to someone about something, you can always count on your college friends. They will sit down and let you rant endlessly and actually care. No matter what, they will always be willing to listen to you and whatever story you have to tell.

8. They are your second family.

Although you may be homesick and miss your family, you will always feel at home with your friends around. They will be your shoulder to lean on and your biggest support system while away from home!

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
