This past May, I was fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to travel to London, Hampshire, and Bath, England at the end of the Spring 2016 semester. About this time last year, I was just starting to make my travel plans. It's hard to believe a year has gone by since I was preparing for my trip. Here are just a few of the random things I'm really missing about England:
1. Red telephone boxes.
It's so stereotypical, but I do miss seeing these every so often. They're charming!
2. British pubs.
Of course, there are endless British pubs in the U.S. But they're not the same!
3. The countryside.
I remember falling asleep on a bus ride from London out to the Hampshire countryside. When I woke up and looked out the window, I could have sworn I had woken up in a fairy tale. Rural England is so quaint.
4. The food.
It felt really good to cross authentic fish and chips off my food bucket list in London.
5. The churches.
Churches are some of my favorite places to visit when I'm in a new city. The churches I saw in England were full of history, not to mention stunning architecture and artwork.
Winchester Cathedral
Bath Abbey
6. The Tube.
Taking public transport in the USA isn't the same without a lively British voice telling me to "mind the gap."
7. Big Ben.
Just because.
8. The Pulteney Bridge in Bath.
There may be no better place in the world to birdwatch.
Hopefully soon I will be able to plan new adventures, but for now, I'll be reminiscing about England!
