Sometimes our world can seem negative. These random acts of kindness can go a long way and instantly turn someone's day around.

1. Volunteer.

Take a morning or afternoon and volunteer at your local food bank, humane society, or retirement home. These types of places are always looking for extra help and it's a great and easy way to give back to the community and make a difference without taking too much time out of your busy schedule.

2. Compliment someone.

A genuine compliment from a stranger or a friend can instantly brighten anyone's day.

3. Pick up trash when you see it.

Obviously don't do this if it's dangerously gross, but picking up a wrapper here and there can literally make the world a nicer looking place and it makes you look like a really good person.

4. Open the door for someone.

It may not seem like much, but simple gestures go further than you would think.

5. Say Please and Thank you.

Like I said, it's the little things. There's a reason we were all taught this. A simple please and thank you might just be that little extra gratitude to make you both feel good.

6. Smile more.

People like people who smile. Just as long as you aren't creepy when you do it.

7. Call your parents.

As soon as they get done being scared that something is wrong because you never ever call them, they will be thrilled you called.

8. Donate.

This could be almost anything! Money, clothes, toys, or even time. Donate something you don't need or use anymore. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

It may not take a lot of time, effort, or money, but doing something for someone else can brighten their day and leave you feeling better about yourself.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
