8 Promises To My Nephew

Recently my sister had a baby, and he is probably the best part of my life. He is the cutest little bubbly love I have ever seen in my whole life (yes I might be bias). So, here is to you Canaan (pronounced Kay--nahn because wow it bothers me when people get it wrong), 8 things I promise to do as your auntie.

1. I promise to always be there

I may be currently living 155 miles away from you, and you might not know exactly who I am yet, but I promise that no matter what, I will be there.

2. I promise to be fun

No matter how busy I am, I promise to always have fun with you. I am so excited to be the "fun aunt" that lets you eat too much candy, maybe do something a little crazy, and stay up too late (sorry sister).

3. I promise to also be serious

Sometimes life gets a little hard, and I promise to always be willing to be serious with you. If you need someone to talk to, I'm your girl (actually I'm your auntie but you get it).

4. I promise to take you fishing

Wow I am excited to take you hunting and fishing when you're old enough. I am so excited to show you all of my little tricks, which really aren't that important, and I am so excited to be able to show you that the beauty of fishing is really in where you go, not what you are catching (although that's an added bonus).

5. I promise to be honest with you

I will always tell you the truth. Whether or not that's something you want to hear, I will definitely always tell you the truth. Why? Because you'll need to get used to hearing it.

6. I promise to support you

As your aunt, I am your number one fan (besides your mom and dad obviously). But really, I will be at every sporting, school, and extracurricular event that I can make it to. You're my nephew, and everyone in the crowd will know that because I will always be there cheering you on.

7. I promise to embarrass you

What kind of relative would I be if I didn't do this?

8. I promise to do crazy things with you

Want to go on a road trip? want to get a tattoo? (THAT IS APPROPRIATE) want to dye your hair? idk what it is but whatever I'm in. Whether I will be right next to you, or trying to make sure you don't do something too stupid, I'm there.

To be honest, I already have so much love for you. I cannot wait to see how much that grows as you grow older. You are the greatest blessing that has come to our family and I couldn't have been blessed with a cuter or more fun nephew. I love you to the moon and back 10,000 times over.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
