The spring semester is coming to a close, there's something other than summer vacation plans that VCU students have on their minds-- apartment hunting. Off-campus housing goes fast because it's typically so much cheaper (and offers more freedom) than on-campus housing, so here's a quick run-down of some of the hottest places to live off-campus (in no particular order).

1. The Berkshire

Located on 300 W. Franklin St., the Berkshire is known for being spacious and affordable. Some amenities are free utilities and a fitness center.

2. Monroe Park Towers

MPT is on 520 W. Franklin St. and typically good for people looking for a one or two bedroom space. They're also connected to Jimmy John's so that's a definite plus.

3. Pine Court Apartments

Pine Courts on 707 W. Cary St. is a really convenient option for those looking to be right by MPC camps. Free utilities are offered and their maintenance/housekeeping crew is pretty diligent.

4. Eagle Mills Apartments

Eagle Mills on 1400 W. Marshall, so it's right next to Kroger and -- for any art students-- close to Bowe St. Parking Deck.

5. The Square

The Square is one of the newest complexes off-campus that went up just last year. It's on 406 Shafer St., right in the center of a bunch of delicious restaurants on Grace St. They also offer an indoor gym, are pet-friendly, and a rooftop lounge.

6. The Towers on Franklin

The Towers on Franklin sits on 104 W. Franklin St. Some services they have to offer are an indoor pool, a fitness center, and a clubhouse.

7. Coliseum Lofts

Located on 1359 W Broad St., Coliseum Lofts is close to big stores like Lowe's and Kroger. Some of the things they offer are free laundry, utilities included (even internet/cable) and they're pet-friendly!

8. Iron House Condominium

Iron House is right next door to Coliseum Lofts (1333 W. Broad St.). They allow cats, offer free utilities (sans electricity), and units come with a washer and dryer included.

If you're looking to ditch on-campus housing for next semester, definitely start your search with some of these. Make sure to act fast, because time's running out and the summer is almost upon us!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
