Halloween is seen as a day of self expression. It is an opportunity for individuals to dress as anything they would like without being judged. Because of this, Halloween costumes have evolved over the years, and have definitely become more risqué. But at what point do costumes go too far and become inappropriate?
The following Halloween costumes are eye-grabbing and make a statement, but definitely not in the best way. Here are eight politically incorrect costumes that you should not be seen in this Halloween!
1. Sexy Ebola containment suit.
How can one dress as Ebola and call it sexy? The item details say, “be sure to check out our men’s Ebola Containment Costume for a great couple’s costume idea.” What a great idea -- a dynamic duo of a deadly disease!!!
2.
Not only is it wrong to involve children in Halloween costumes involving terrorists, but to replicate a violent beheading incident is just disgusting.
3. Domestic violence incident of Ray and Janay Rice.
This costume idea not only depicts sexual violence, but also portrays it in a humorous light. In no way is sexual violence humorous or something to imitate.
4. Illegal immigration.
The immigration issue is already a touchy subject and is widely polarized in terms of perspectives. By using a costume as an alien to depict immigration, we see a risky, and inappropriate attempt of a play on words.
5. 911.
These two women are trying to make one of the biggest tragedies in American history appear "sexy." I don’t know if it’s the elaborate details of the costume, or the enjoyment the two seem to be having while wearing these costumes, that gets to me most.
6. A pregnant nun.
A pregnant nun. Enough said.
7. Ahmed Mohamed impersonation.
This "costume" is a depiction of a recent controversy involving the arrest of a Muslim boy for bringing a homemade clock to school that his teacher mistook for a bomb. It is offensive and can be viewed as racist.
8. Caitlyn Jenner.
Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner took a brave step in coming out as transgender in a society that is still evolving and embracing issues of gender identity. This costume pokes fun at a very sensitive issue while disregarding the challenges transgender people face on a daily basis in our society.
