Poetry is always good for the soul, especially when it comes out of Rupi Kaur's Milk and Honey! Here are some of my personal favorites from her book.
"What is stronger / than the human heart / which shatters over and over /and still lives"
Remember: you're resilient and no pain is permanent.
"What's the greatest lesson a woman should learn? / that since day one, she's already had everything / she needs within herself. it's the world that / convinced her she did not"
Never doubt yourself, not even for a second! You were born to do great things.
"to hate / is an easy lazy thing / but to love / takes strength / everyone has / but not all are / willing to practice"
Hating it easy, loving takes time, and forgiveness even longer, but always remember to maintain patience.
"the universe took its time on you / crafted you precisely / so you could offer the world / something distinct from everyone else / so when you doubt / how you were created / you doubt an energy greater than us both"
Never forget that you are special and unique, and to put your trust in that fact.
"The way they / leave / tells you / everything"
Even more than the way they come and the way they stay.
"We all move forward when / we recognize how resilient / and striking the women / around us are"
It is imperative that us women stick together to make great things happen. Instead of tearing one another down, we have to build each other up.
"Of course / i want to be / successful but / i don't crave / success for me / i need to be / successful / to gain enough / milk and honey / to help those / around me / succeed"
Of course you want to be successful, but you care about those around you more than you can explain. Always build each other up!
"Let it go / let it leave / let it happen / nothing / in this world / was promise or / belonged to you / anyway"
Keep confident, but keep yourself in check. Work hard for everything, nothing gets handed to you, and what does isn't worth keeping.
