8 Plants To Brighten Your Room

These dorm rooms are so bland! These plants are quite the opposite.

Spring is right around the corner and that means the sweet, little, green buds of summer are going to start popping up on tree branches and poking out from the ground. Seeing as how we're stuck indoors during this spring semester, plants are just hard to come by within these dismal dorm rooms. So, here are eight plants to brighten up your room for the spring, because who doesn't need plants?

1. Tulips

It's spring, and tulips are just the right amount of color you need. My favorites are the pastel pinks and purples, but they also come in whites, reds, yellows, some usually mixed between two colors. Any color you want, really. Eventually, they will wilt and die, but you can take the bulb and save it for the next season, so that way when you're dying in the 5 by 5 dorm room, you can plant it in some dirt and watch it grow. It'll be like having a child, except no diapers and no crying. Bonus: They smell amazing! Be prepared for a good smelling room without the illegal wax melter or candles.

2. Orchids

Alright, so orchids are a little expensive, but they're oh so worth it. Unlike tulips, they don't wilt. They will, however, just straight up die. They don't need a lot of attention, but they do need a good amount of water, but like I said, worth it. They come in many colors, more so than the tulips do. Different shapes, too. These, sadly, don't smell. Orchids are more for the looks than the smell. But, hey, we can always pretend they smell as gorgeous as they look.

3. Lady Palm

Let's get some green in our rooms. Lady Palms grow slow and need little to no fertilizer, which is good for a potted plant that doesn't wilt once its season is over. How simple can it get? Bonus, these guys clean the air, more so than other plants do.

4. Sunflowers

If sunflowers don't scream summer, I don't know what does. Bright and big, these yellow flowers make me feel like I'm on my way to the beach. I already have five growing in my window sill right now. The seeds are easy to start, you'll see them grow roots and latch onto the dirt within five days. Simple plants to start on your own.

5. Barberton Daisy

My all time favorite daisies, besides the ones that grow in fields that you can easily turn into a flower crown. Bright, big and colorful. God bless these flowers, because I love seeing their giant heads in bouquets or floating in wedding center pieces. Spring colors and bright green stems, these are a go to flower that I would suggest to put in your room.

6. Spider Plant

It's like little green spiders are growing off the ends of this plant. My mother adores this plant, but they're delicate. Bump into them too hard, there goes the spider! Very much like the lady palm, it's low maintenance and it cleans the air. Perfect if you kill plants easy or forget they even exist in your room.

7. String of Pearls

We probably would all rather a real string of fine pearls, but this may be as close as we can get as broke college students. These can be just as pretty, though! Not as expensive, either.

8. Donkey Tails

They may look like string of pearls, but if you're a succulent fanatic, you know there's a difference. Follow the simple care for any succulent, and this plant will add a quirky green touch to your room.

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.
