1. The Catafount

Walking through campus never gets tiring due to the beautiful fountain we get to pass by daily. Whether it be 100 degrees outside with kids screaming and laughing as they run between college students passing to jump in the cool water, or it be sunset in the early fall just before the fountain cuts off for the winter with students sitting close by relaxing in the cool weather, this is always a beautiful place to be on campus.

2. The Clock Tower

Our pride and joy of Western Carolina's campus. This is one place on campus that is always beautiful in all four seasons and is something each student takes pride in when they graduate from the school and are able to walk underneath the beautiful clock after a long and tough four years, but the best four years of their lives.

3. Water Rock Knob

Just 25 minutes from campus lies the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway with one of it's most popular spots for students to hike up to and see the wonderful mountains that bring us so much happiness in where we live. & don't worry, if you're not one who likes hiking, the view is just as beautiful when driving.

4. Pinnacle Peak

Not far from campus is one of the more popular spots to hike and camp! Pinnacle Peak is one that many students will visit time and time again for the lovely (but semi-long) hike and camping spot. The view is well worth it in the end.

5. Whiteside Mountain

Over the mountain lies more... mountains! This is something that never gets old. Just over next to Cashiers is the beautiful destination of Whiteside Mountain that is so breathtaking and wonderful and draws many students in for day hikes.

6. Paradise Falls

It may not be that Paradise Falls you hear about in Disney's movie UP, but this one is better. Take a day to hike a super short hike to the beautiful waterfall and do some cliff jumping while you're here! The Catamounts keep this place filled with laughter and happiness as the students enjoy the wonders of Paradise Falls.

7. The Tuckasegee River

The perfect place for fishing, canoeing, or even just hanging out. The Tuck is so popular around Cullowhee and students are so thankful for wonderful places like this that are right next to campus for them to enjoy and spend time soaking in all the fresh outdoor smells and activities.

8. Jackson County Airport

About a 10 minute drive from campus for this wonderful view. Students spend lots of time by the airport during the fall and for sunsets. You can't beat a view like this when it's at your school.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
