8 Ways To Break Cabin Fever And Get Out Of The House When It's The Last Thing You Want To Do

Appreciate what is outside, and don't take it for granted.

Being outside is so important. Not only are you walking around and stretching, but you are also appreciating your surroundings and everything that you usually might take for granted. Never forget what is right in front of you, because you don't know how long it will be there.

1. Go for a run.

Get some exercise and get your heart rate up. Not only will it stretch out your muscles from sitting inside for most of the summer, but it will also make you feel better about yourself. When you do something to get your heart rate pumping, you will also feel happier because of the endorphins releasing into your body.

2. Have a beach, pool, or water park day.

If you don't want to go outside because of the heat, then take time to cool off. Why not spend your day at a water park or enjoy the fast-paced ride while cooling down from waiting to get onto it? If you don't like rides, then get some friends or family together and take a drive to the beach. Not only will you get tan or relive your days as a child while building sandcastles, you also get to go in the ocean and enjoy the cool water. There are so many activities to do at the beach like volleyball, paddle boarding, or parasailing.

3. Go to a concert.

When in doubt, sing it out. Being at a concert is one of the most fun times you will ever have. You can sit back or stand and dance with your friends or family while enjoying live music. My favorite concerts are country concerts because they are so chill. You can sit back and listen to great music or you can get up and dance along with everyone around you.

4. Take a road trip to somewhere you've never been.

Use the time you are sitting at home to go and explore your surroundings. Whether that's going to a different part of your city or a completely different state, go somewhere you've never been. The world is your oyster, so don't waste it.

5. Have a picnic.

Sit outside and enjoy the sound of birds chirping while eating some sandwiches and fruit with your siblings, parents, cousins, aunt/uncles – everyone. Maybe even bring along your significant other and treat them to a day in the outdoors, who wouldn't enjoy that?

6. Hang out at a park.

Jennifer Birdie Shawker

Go on the swings and feel like a kid again. Try to swing into the sky and touch the clouds. If you don't feel like doing that, then just walk around the path in the park. Enjoy the feeling of the sun on your skin and the breeze on your face.

7. Do something crazy.

Go on a helicopter, skydive, or ride a hot air balloon. Do something that will make you scared - you'll have so much more fun and your adrenaline will be pumping! You also get amazing views, and what is better than that?

8. Plant something.

Daniel Hjalmarsson

Yes, I am very aware as to how random this is, but why not do it? Plant a tree, a bush, or some flowers. Not only will your parents love it, but it will also make where you live look beautiful. Flowers are a part of nature that will always be beautiful and add so much to a property. Every time you look at what you planted, you will also feel a sense of accomplishment, and who doesn't love that?

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
