8 Old School Jams To Kick Off Your Summer Workout

Summer's here, and it's time to move!

Summer is here. It's hot. The day job is boring. There's nothing left on Netflix to watch. Maybe, just maybe, it's time to try that video of quick workouts you saved on from Facebook. (Yeah, I did it too!)

So you need some tunes to go with it? The radio is blaring too much Zayn Malik, not enough Panic! at the Disco. I know the struggle. But let's rewind the clock. Forget that autotune and try a new decade of music. Because of all the music that's out in the world, there's really no music like 90s music. So here are a few on my playlist that I think everyone can benefit from. (Even if you don't work out to them and maybe just laze in the bed all day.)

1. "Jenny from the Block (Track Masters Remix)" - J-Lo

Because you know you want that J-Lo Booty.

Really, any J-Lo song it booty-shake worthy, but "JFTB" is really just that monumental 90s jam that strikes the nostalgia in everyone's heart.

2. "Work It" - Missy Elliot

Yourfwibibinad c'mon.

Another landmark 90s song. Lady rappers of the 1990s and early 00s are what gave folks like Nicki Minaj her footing. Don't let social media brainwash you to think they're the first. They're not, and Missy Elliot is a perfect primer to get you educated if you do.

3. "California Love" - 2pac

Be a 2pac about the haters.

What 90s playlist is complete without a 2pac song?

4. "Nothin' but a G-Thang" - Dr. Dre

5. "Wonderwall" - Oasis

Sing it to yourself. I do.

Yes, it's a romance song, but can't it be a song you sing to yourself? After all, those burpees are really tough live. Really. Tough.

6. "Friday I'm in Love" - The Cure

Maybe Friday is your cheat day. Or maybe it should be.

7. "Lithium" - Nirvana

I mean, I'm all about lyric meanings, but Nirvana is just a band that is really workout worthy. Regardless of what the song is about.

8. "Buddy Holly" - Weezer

Think about that 90210 body. Any Weezer song is applicable here, but "Buddy Holly" is inevitably an epic hit of the grunge decade.

Fill up that playlist. There are a thousand songs that are awesome for your list, but think about it: wouldn't they be a bit better with some of these mixed in? So what are you waiting for? Summer body sessions are waiting! Start those crunches!

BTW, don't like these? Best way to kill some time (as you jump on that treadmill *wink wink*) is to find a YouTube playlist, a Spotify channel, or even skim vh1 for their ideal 1990s list. One hit wonders are always the best, and may even introduce you to a new band. Dig a little. Get your hands dirty! Grunge is always in style.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
