It’s that time of the year to start thinking about the new year ahead. New Year. New Me. All that jazz. It can be intimidating and nerve-wracking to think of the 365 days ahead. You finally found the groove of 2016 and now you have to start all over. It’s going to take a solid three weeks to write 2017 instead of 2016 on every document that has to be dated. Awesome. And there is the added pressure of New Year's Resolutions. Really, does anyone keep those?

This year, I challenge you to not get caught up in the motions of unattainable goals and to instead choose practical resolutions that you can truly be successful at! It’s time to get down to business.

1. Say No More Often

Personally, this is huge for me. I like to have my hand in everything and to make sure everything gets done. However, by learning to say no or how to delegate tasks, you will no longer have too many irons in the fire and can redirect energy into certain projects. You, along with the people around you, will be happier!

2. Smile

I’m convinced that smiling is contagious. You could change someone’s whole day by this small act of kindness!

3. Drink More Water

Water keeps everything working as it should in our bodies and too many of us are not consuming enough. By drinking more water, your skin will look better, your body will feel better, and your energy level.

4. Accept Yourself

Learn to be okay with yourself. You are awesome. Recognize who you are and what makes you “you” and rock it!

5. Spend Less Money on Takeout

Channel your inner Betty Crocker and Pioneer Woman! Spend time in the kitchen and cook your favorite dishes from home. You’ll save money and have fun!

6. Listen More

Stop talking and really listen to what people have to say. You’ll be surprised what you learn!

7. Spend More Time With Family

Movie nights, board games, dinner together around the table… It’s moments like these that mean the most when it’s all said and done.

8. Treat Yourself

Sometimes you just need to treat yourself. A new book, night out, new shoes, a box of chocolates, etc. It’s the small things in life that make us happy and this is one resolution that is truly “no fail.”

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
