8 Movies To Watch During The Holidays

After the rush of finals and moving back home, a little bit of relaxation is needed. Now during the holidays, the time to relax comes in all forms: family, hot cocoa, Christmas albums. My favorite way to spend the holidays is by watching the most cherished movies of all. I’ve taken the time to go back to all the Christmas/holiday related movies I’ve watched over the years and created a must-watch list this break.

1. "Elf"

Although relatively new, I’ve got to start out with this movie. The most quotable movie of all, "Elf" is at the top of the list of favorites for many reasons. I don’t know a single person who hasn’t watched this movie and not loved it. It’s a staple movie to watch during the holidays. So, get your spaghetti maple syrup concoction ready!

2. "The Santa Clause"

It’s not the holidays with Santa Claus! Was I the only one that wished my dad would’ve found Santa Claus’ suit? I wanna live in the North Pole with elves!

3. "Home Alone"

There is not one holiday season where my family and I don’t watch these movies. Thank you, ABC Family, for playing and replaying this classic adventure of a little boy’s Christmas alone. Kevin McCallister lives out all of our childhood fantasies. These movies never get old and will always get my family and me together.

4. "How the Grinch Stole Christmas"

Thank you, Jim Carrey, for recreating a classic in the best way possible. I don’t know about you, but I always wanted to help Cindy Lou Who save Christmas. Side note: The girl that plays Cindy Lou Who is Dan Humphrey’s sister in "Gossip Girl."

5. "The Nightmare Before Christmas"

Although this movie is about two holidays (Christmas and Halloween), the tale reminds us that everybody wants to be part of the holiday cheer! Tim Burton meshes the two holidays seamlessly, and Jack Skellington, you are welcome to be a part of the holiday spirit!

6. "The Polar Express"

As a kid, we all read or heard about the story of the "Polar Express." I was always fascinated by the adventure and wanted to be the kid that got a train ride to the North Pole on Christmas Eve. Did you?

7. "A Christmas Carol"

This is an epic tale of ghosts who change grumpy, bah humbug Scrooge into a holiday-loving old man. This is the perfect holiday classic to remind us to be thankful of our loved ones and not to be so darn grumpy. After all, it's the holidays!

8. "Harry Potter"

Now, I think this might be my favorite marathon that’s played on TV of all. I am a big Harry Potter fan, as I’ve read all the books when I was younger. So, you can understand the memories these movies bring back for me. I will always be reminded it's the holidays with these wizards.

There you have it! The best and most classic movies of the holidays! I know there are a ton more that’ll play on TV, but I recommend watching all of these over break if you haven’t already.

Enjoy your breaks!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
