8 Life Lessons From Musicals
Broadway

From the depths of Never Never Land to the hustle and bustle of Alphabet City, musicals can take us through many journeys and stories. These shows can teach us many lessons and inspire us all while entertaining and getting catchy songs stuck in our head. Musicals are more than just a bunch of actors singing and dancing around on stage, they are a culture all their own.

1. What to do when your relationship ends

All you ever have to do when a relationship ends is hop into the shower and wash that man right out of your hair! You might to rinse and repeat a couple of times but it will be worth it!

2. When haters hate... be Edna Turnblad

If someone tries to infringe upon your happiness you have to keep on pushing because the world keeps spinning round and round. Put your own Velma and Amber in their place.

3. Don't accept less than you deserve

Pop! Six! Squish! Uh! Uh! Cicero! Lipchitz! Sometimes we have to take a lesson from the ladies of the Funhouse. Never accept anything less than you deserve, don't murder anybody, but you can kill all ties and get what you need.

4. Best friends are forever

You can always count on the members of your own personal Donna and the Dynamos to come a give you a pick me up when you need it. Good friends are hard to come by, so get your own magical hotel in Greece and keep them there!

5. Patience is a virtue

Don't worry, your knight and shinning ogre will come for you soon enough. It will be today! But, until then, rip some pages out of a book and sing about your childhood; PATIENCE!

6. Nobody can ever bring you down

Nobody can ever bring you down... well that is if they don't have a bucket of water. Since you are waterproof, you can do whatever you set your mind to, and if you want something bad enough nobody can stop you from achieving your goal.

7. It's Okay Not To Be A Heather

Don't be like Heather, Heather, or Heather. It's important for you to be a Veronica in the world of Heathers. Being your own person is never anything to be afraid of! Individuality pays off, especially when you have your own name.

8. You Have 525,600 Minutes In Year To Not Waste

There is only 525,600 minutes in one year. Time flies so fast, it is important to sit back and take in time once in a while, because in the blink of an eye, you will have flashed forward 2,000,000 minutes!

8. Accept yourself and others

The sooner we learn to accept ourselves and other people, the sooner we can live in a safer and happier place. Diversity is all around us, so it is time for all of us to stand tall in a pair of Kinky Boots and lead by example.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
