As an adult, it's fun to joke about your childish side or take trips down memory lane. As my best friend and I sat in the house struggling to find something to do; we found ourselves reminiscing about the games we used to play as kids. But little did we realize the true impact these games had on our lives. Let's take a look at eight of the most popular ones.
1. Cops & Robbers:
This game may have only consisted of a hand in the form of a gun and tireless running; but it held a pack full punch to current society. It proved that there are bad people in the world that don't always get caught. Sometimes the cop and the robber are the same person as we continuously switch roles. Violence has obviously been engraved in us since we were five.
2. Hopscotch:
This truly taught us the saying that life is a balancing act. As we hop on one foot or two, we can only go as far as life takes us or as far as we allow it.
3. Double Dutch:
As little girls, we only focused on swinging rope and jumping fast enough to escape tripping. But it was actually teaching us how to jump over hurdles to that constantly come after us. However; sometimes we attempt to dodge our issues by jumping over them, yet don't go anywhere.
4. Simon Says:
As the government and society continues to find ways to control us and try to tell us how to operate, we still have the power of choice like in this game. We listen carefully to the demands and determine if they're worth the risk.
5. Red Rover/ Mother May I:
This game highlighted the power of selection and bias in the world around us. We face the world's problems day after day as we strive for a breakthrough. We take little steps towards success that society allows and dictates.
6. Hide & Seek:
This classic game has been expanded to the point of in the dark and tag. But what it really taught us was that we can't hide from our reality no matter how hard we try. We will always be found,
7. Red Light Green Light:
This game speaks the greatest volume because it showed us the progression of life. Red- when you're at a stand still in life waiting for your time to shine. Yellow- when life is moving slow. Green- when your life is moving at full speed and everything appears to be going smoothly.
8. Capture the Flag:
This game teaches the average life lesson to strive for greatness. It progressed our strategic abilities and ambition and taught us to fight for what we want no matter who's on our team.
Our childhood games have taught us many life lessons; some obvious, some camouflaged. It only makes me wonder why kids don't like playing outside anymore.
