Eight inexpensive things to do in the summer, you say? Sign me up! As a young college student, funds can be tight. Of course depending on where you live, these can be modified in order to fit your wants and needs.
1. Go for a hike.
Most locations across the world have somewhere to hike. I’m not much of an outdoors person, but being on a trail and seeing incredible views from high heights is so exhilarating!
2. Head to the beach.
I guess I’m biased because I'm 10 minutes from multiple beaches, but the beach is so serene. The waves crashing, wind blowing and sand between your toes — what more could you ask for?
3. Go on a picnic.
Head to your favorite location in town and be basic. Throw down a red-and-white-checkered blanket and open up that wicker basket filled with treats. Just don’t let any ants come by!
4. Have a bonfire.
Nighttime bonding around a fire when the sun finally sets is such an awesome way to end a warm summer day.
5. Make s'mores.
Yes, it may cost a few dollars to get the ingredients, but ooey-gooey warm marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers are an award-winning trio!
6. Go to a fair.
Usually towns, counties or religious centers have fairs throughout the summer that offer fun rides, typical boardwalk games (hint hint: claw machines!) and fun food (like french fries, funnel cakes and ice cream).
7. Visit a new town.
Small towns that have quaint stores, yummy restaurants, ice cream stores and hip coffee shops are all fun adventures to find this summer!
8. Go to a music festival.
Even if there aren't any festivals near you, go to a local coffee shop or bar where local artists are playing. Maybe even have a karaoke night. Hey, you might have fun in the process.
So there’s that — a few fun things to do this summer! Yes, there are plenty of things to do like swimming, biking, checking out historical locations or making a road trip. Happy summer to all, and to all a good break!
