For the past few weeks, things have been a bit crazy. But even in that craziness, there needs to be a way to calm down without verbally, mentally, or physically hurting someone else. Here are a few ways I have found that, believe it or not, work.
1. Saying 'bubbles' as angry as possible
This sounds like a joke, but it actually works. The method comes from a Tumblr post I have seen for over a year with various other comical methods, the idea originating from the user lighten-the-darkness. I highly recommend it.
2. Dancing
This one is not as strange, but dancing can be very interesting depending on one's mood. There is just something natural about it. Besides, it's good exercise, even if you are just jumping around.
3. Listening to music
My PTSD made me a different person with my anger, and with every other emotion. Music helped a lot. Whether you like metal, country, rock, pop, or even rap, music can help center the mind and let someone think without interruption. It can change lives.
4. Writing
Words are beautiful and have a lot of power behind them. Letting your emotions out this way can show you later on how far you have come, and it can help you figure things out.
5. Watching viral videos
Laughter can actually help a lot, especially to diffuse tension. There is something so pure about a real laugh, and silly videos can emit that in a matter of seconds. Positivity is good for the soul.
6. Sleep
Like stress, emotions can wear you out. It's not the easiest method, but it works pretty well. A clear head is better.
7. Food
I know there are eating disorders, but you can still eat healthy and blow off steam. My emotions go raw if I am hungry so I know this first hand. Food can help a lot.
8. Exercise
What? It is technically healthy. And, even if I do dislike running, exercise can be extremely refreshing. It also improves your mood.
And I'm sure you can think of more! The world's not an easy place, but not everything has to be negative. Try to find what makes you feel better without hurting yourself in the process.
