Bonjour Readers! For the past few weeks I have undertaken the challenge of teaching myself the fascinating language of French. I soon discovered that one of the best ways to learn a new language is by exposing yourself to it as much of it as you possibly can. Therefore, by that logic, listening to music performed in French will help familiarize yourself with the language. After all, music is the universal language, so grab your berets and baguettes and get ready to take a journey to experience the culture of France!

Malajube

Hey Indie rock fans, I highly recommend listening to this Montreal-based band. Their combinations of traditional French music and Indie rock really sets this band apart from the rest, which is perhaps the most Indie thing that one can do. Malajube manages to combine the language love with the high-energy appeal of rock and roll.

Stromae

One of France's most popular artists, Stromae is primarily known for his dance numbers. He has even performed with famous American artists such as Kanye West. Born to a Rwandan father and Belgian mother, Stromae has managed to mix traditional African styles with modern house music and hip-hop.

Karkwa

Karkwa is another great band from the city of Montreal. Just be prepared, their dreamlike tones and thought provoking lyrics could have you sitting alone in a French café contemplating the meaning of life.

Celine Dion

You probably think that this one is pretty obvious, however, I would not say Celine is known for her music that is performed in her native tongue. If you thought her songs in English made you feel emotional, try listening to her songs in French. You may find yourself wiping your tears with a flaky croissant.

Iggy Pop

Is anyone else surprised that the godfather of punk rock music released an album with songs recorded in French? Well it just so happens that Pop is a noted Francophile and recorded this album because he found himself bored with traditional punk rock music. Pop is really expanding his horizons here by combining the sounds of New Orleans style Jazz with his sultry voice muttering lines in French.

M83

Although M83 tend to favor English as their language of choice, their songs performed in French such as Echoes of mine, take a spoken word style of delivering lyrics and accompany it with a deep ambient track.

Noir Désir

Noir Désir has had a career that has spanned over three decades. In that time, they have managed to popularize alternative rock all across France.

La Fouine

This French rapper combines the elegance of the French language with the raw and hardcore sounds of the street. La Fouine is not only extremely popular in his home country, but has managed to gain a following all across the globe.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
