8 Good Books For This Fall

I'm a book worm, and I'm not ashamed. Books have the ability to take you out of reality and throw you into a different world. If you're like me, I drift into my own little bubble when I read. The world and everything and everyone in it doesn't exist when I get hooked on a book. I thought I would share some books that I have recently read that I really loved reading. Plus it's getting to be fall, so it's the perfect time to snuggle under a blanket and read a book.

Note: some of these books you might have already read or are "old," so I apologize if you've already read them.

1) I'm Thinking of Ending Things by Iain Reid

Wow. I'm speechless. I honestly don't know where to start on this book. It really leaves you scratching your head. To be honest, I still don't think I fully understand the ending of the book. And since its getting close to Halloween, this is the perfect book to make your hair on the back of your neck stand on end. I seriously got really scared reading this book, but maybe that's because I was reading it at night before bed. This book really has a way to get under your skin and creep you out.

2) Water For Elephants by Sara Gruen

I really enjoyed this book from start to finish. The story really pulls on your heart-strings and you get so attached to the characters, or at least I did. And if you like elephants, you will fall in love with the sweet elephant in this book. I would say more about this book but there would be pages about it.

3) Baby Proof by Emily Giffin

Once again, a book that really pulls at your heart. You follow a couple (Claudia and Ben) that seems to be a match made in heaven until deciding to have a baby or not tears them apart. I flew through this book, it was such a great read and then ending is worth it. Such a good ending.

4) American Gods by Neil Gaiman

This is the first book that I have read by Neil Gaiman and it's definitely interesting. Though I'm not finished with it just yet (I'm reading about 3 books at once), it has been such a mysterious book. You follow a man named Shadow who just gets out of prison to find that his wife was killed in a car accident, but she was cheating with another man when it happened. A mysterious man named Mr. Wednesday appears before Shadow and sends him on an interesting journey.

5) & 6) The Best of Me & Dear John by Nicholas Sparks

I promised myself that I would never read a Nicholas Sparks book because I didn't want to be "basic", but I found myself in a little book store and both books were about three dollars each so I said why not? I read these books at the same time and I really enjoyed both of them. I think the book Dear John is better than the movie, but isn't the book always better than the movie? So if you were like me promising that you would never touch a Nicholas Sparks book, these two are pretty good reads.

7) The Green Mile by Stephen King

Since I've only seen the movie (it's such a great movie), and almost always the book is better than the movie, I had to snag this book.

8) State of Mind by John Katzenbach

I only recently purchased this book a day ago and even though I'm only on page 109, this book has me hooked. From what I've read from the back of the book and the knowledge I've gotten from the 109 pages I've read, this book follows Jeffery and Susan Clayton. This brother and sister duo were fathered by a killer. A murderer. He committed suicide shortly after he murdered one of his students.

A serial killer is on the loose in a city many years after Jeffrey and Susan's father committed suicide. Is he really dead? Jeffrey is also an expert on serial killers and is brought this particular case. Is he now searching for his "dead" father?

I hope I gave you at least one new book to pick up and enjoy this fall. Reading is one of my favorite hobbies, so I'm very happy I got to share some of the most recent books I've read with you. Feel free to leave a comment with a book you read and enjoyed, I will definitely check it out!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
